I've been playing this mod on and off for more than a dozen years (thank you Leoreth for updating in all these years!). What do you guys think are some of the most recommended civs(UHV/URV) to play? For fun or for challenge or for parody, etc. Gotta try something new.

Once you have your fill of UHVs, the best things to do are weird alt-history stuff. My favourite run was Hindu Russia (play as India, settle Moscow and Kyiv, convert to Hindu, flip to Russia and convert).

I like taking ancient and classical civs are far into history as I can (ignoring UHVs as needed). One of my favorite things to do is play Carthage and try found Catholicism by building a cathedral in Carthage, and using all that shrine income to build an army to crush the Moors. Then I found strategic colonies around the world. There’s something cozy about Carthage gameplay once you get past the Roman invasion. I just enjoy it.

Java is another plain fun civ. One of my favorites in 1.18 by far. You can go all kinds of directions with Java, the sky is the limit.

One of my favorite silly things to do is try and create preposterous cities. In my current China game I’m trying to create a city with 10+ population that works no tiles. The idea is National Park with a bunch of reserves and food from scientists and engineers. That’s the hope at least…

Just played Java for the first time on your suggestion and you're right, it's very fun!

I myself am partial to the Norse UHV game, not just due to my academic interest, but because it's just such a fun, chaotic, open-ended game. You get to be a menace to anybody you want, raiding and conquering. The only thing you really have to do is make it to America, but besides that you can toy with Europe however you want (although some avenues are certainly more lucrative than others). I've been meaning to make a thread to bring up a few minor suggestions I have but really it's just a classic UHV game.

I also love Phoenicia, there's just something about boat-based civs that really does it for me.

UHV are the default way of playing the mod, but one thing you can do is try to stick as close as possible to the general timeline of a civ's achievement. Settling, conquest and wonders, maybe even losses of territory if you're feeling masochistic.

Or just come up with leaders-based UHVs.

Most intrested games was by Rome - control whole World (eleminate all rivals, without vassals), launching Starship before 1900AD (England) and convert all civs to Islam (Arabia). But all this was on old map. Not sure you can do this on new map (except Starship before 1900).
Also win Space race with all civs (especially that start late and outdated)
