Hi everyone...

I'm fairly new to the game but I am an accomplished gamer.

Anyway, I tried the Editor so I could raise the difficulty level and still have a chance. So far the game has funcioned well with my 'enhancements' until I tried the following:

1) Edited the map on my continent only(resources, terrain){done this before and it worked}

2) Edited various units {done this before and it worked}

3) Changed optimum cities to 50 {done this before and it worked}

4) Changed "huge' world size from 160x160 to 180x180 {never done this before}

5) Gave the Americans (me) the 'commercial' attribute {never done this before}

The scenario ran fine until I got 'Republic' from a goodie hut. I think it was the last goodie hut on my continent. I ended my turn and expected my advisor to ask me if I wanted to change governments...nothing. I waited a few turns and I finally pressed 'shift-G' to change goverments.
This in itself didn't bother me so much but when my science advisor asked me which technology to research next, I noticed I was finished with Ancient times. Normally you get the nice "...we have entered a distinctly new age" screen with the nice Medievil music...nothing.
I figuerd I just missed it or something but as I played I noticed
I was still hearing the Ancient music. I played maybe 30 more turns just to see if I would ever get into the Middle Ages but it didn't happen.

My theory is that one of the last 2 edits I made (#'s 4 and 5) did it. Anyone have any theories?

This sort of stuff happens when you fiddle around with the editor too much. Sometimes it is easy to link to the changes you have done (when the game crashes as you build one of your new units or improvements, for example), but sometimes it is difficult to know what caused the crash. Anyway, Republic is not required to advance to the medieval era. So there was likely something else that caused your problems. No idea what it could be though. :)

Hmm... I'd bet you probably traded the tech necessary to advance from one era to another. You got it from another civ. It happened once to me. I got out of the Medieval Age by trading a tech with another civ. I did not get the splash screen nor did my workers change their suits. Only when I acquired the tech to enter the Modern Age the splash screen showed up and my workers changed their suits.
