Hi Guys!
I've been running Civ III Call to Power (Activision) for several years with no problems- its been my favorite pastime; but recently its behavior has changed, and today its not loading any saved games at all. I've tried several things, including reinstallation without improvement. The machine is an older AMD 2400 desktop running XPsp3 and with Norton 360, all drivers etc seem to be up to date.
Symptoms are that a saved game would reload normally until a few months ago, then it started taking several minutes to load, and would sometimes crash back to XP's desktop with no explaination. Now even saved games that had previously loaded seem to crash.
Fresh games seem to proceed normally, altho when they get very complex there has been a crash once or twice, but those gave an illegal operation notice.
The game loads from a (legal) disc, or the HD if not new.
I'm at a loss here and could use any advice...
If its OK to bundle Qs, I also have an Acer laptop with 64 bit w7. I bought the CivIV discs a while back to give it a try, but it was defective- only the 1st disc was recognized...
... so I'm just wondering subjectively about IV & V, should I struggle with III (which I was happy with) or is there so much more in the later versions that I should try to push on through?
Thanks in advance!
