Is it possible to kick people out of the cities you build?
And I seem to end up with alot of tax collectors, is this normal.

Thanks
Portmac

There's no more room in you for your people to grow to work the land. If they could, cities could grow to an infanate size.

NB to 'skip' a unit until later this turn, if for example you want to see the result of another unit's move first, press "w" (for wait). If you press spacebar the unit is done for the turn. If you fortify it you'll have to 'wake' the unit to get it to move, and you might forget about it...

thanks for the quick reply Crazy. One other question now. I press the space to pass a units turn..and the enter key to 'END my turn' right? Space doesn't end my turn? thanks in advance!
Space bar may also end your turn. Just look on interface...'hit space or enter to end turn'.
Of course, pressing space when a unit is active (ready to move) skips movement for that unit. But when turn is 'over', space ends turn.

I have a Question:

On Sulla's Civ3 page, specifically: http://www.kalikokottage.com/civ3/sullla/Epic17_1000AD.html

Sulla said he had a conscript rifle defending Nineveh. How the heck did he get that? How do you get conscript anythings? I've only seen those on Barbarians! Somebody help me before my head explodes!

He drafted it. After you get Nationalism, you can draft units. First you can draft Riflemen, then when you get computers, you draft mech. infantry.

To draft units, Right-click on the city and click on the draft button, or go into the city screen and by the hurry button, there is a soldier in front of a green background, click that.

1. What do I do with my old units? Some dont have an upgrade feature, and I got so meny that it costs too much to upgrade them all.

2. What Planes can attack from a Carrier? I tried using bombers but saw no way to have them bomb from the carrier.

1. With PTW, there's a new upgrade path for swordsmen/immortal: to med. infantry and guerilla. You could mod your vanilla civ3 with this pathway as well. Cavalry is the end for any mounted unit. It's a pity, but even in modern times, they do have their uses.
If it costs you too much to upgrade, try to build the Leonardo's Workshop wonder. It halves upgrade costs. Generally speaking, you could better upgrade instead of building new units.
2. All planes can do the same things from carriers as from cities. Perhaps you didn't patch your version up to 1.29, and it might be a bug, but I don't recall anything concerning carriers...

Volker,
1. depends on you (disband in city and get some resource for current prod., block enemy at borders,... - there was a thread about this topic some days ago)
2.should work for bomber: maybe you have to activate him (right-cl. on carrier stack>activate bomber, hit 'b' and bomb target within bomber's range)

Reputation hit

Hi all

I know that this might be subject for a whole thread, but i thought of asking it here first:

I am playing on Deity/hurge map/all civs, as Egypt.
I got to war with the Zulus (no trade breaking, war declaration one turn before, etc), everything that would prevent a rep hit.

Well, most polite nations turned cautious as i declared war. I thought it was normal as they were concerned that i might declare war onto them some day.

But then, after a couple of turns, Shaka wanted to see me. I checked his terms for peace, did not like them, so turned down his offer. Then, all cautious got annoyed, etc...

So, for testing purposes, i reloaded. Shaka still wanted to see me, and here, i refused to talk to him in the first place!
The cautious civs remained cautious, as if no rep hit was caused.

Any ideas?
This is v1.29f btw...

Thx guys
That's what i thought, but i just needed confirmation.
Guess i'll refuse his envoy until i almost finish him off, then i'll sue for peace ;)

Volker, we recently had a good discussion of uses for obsolete units here. Check it out, it has a lot of excellent suggestions.

Hi, all. TIA for any help!

I started playing III about 3 weeks ago. I have been playing on Chieftain level with sedentary barbarians and usually win either by cultural domination or on points. (I know, I know, you're really impressed, right? ) Yesterday, after winning a Regent level game that I downloaded (it was an SG) and played from about 150 BC, I decided to try Warlord level. Large map, 5 other civs.

I can already tell that I'm probably not going to win it. I'm always behind on tech so I doubt I can win the SR, and all of the other civs have a lot more territory than I do. Is there a trick or tip or strategy for early expansion? The CPs are worse than Oklahoma Sooners - they are horning in anywhere there's a free couple of tiles, stealing my resource colonies by plopping cities down next to them, and running rampant through my territory building roads and looking for any spare bit of terrain they can use to build a city. I thought the "territory" concept in III would keep them out, that I could build a "ring" of outer cities and expand towards the center, but they go right through my territory and build cities betwixt and between, ignoring my repeated demands to get out of my territory even though they say they will comply (along with some gratituitous insult like "were I as weak as you, I'd feel threatened too).

Also, by the time I had 3 or 4 cities going and really started cranking out settlers, they were encroaching all around me and I barely got enough turf to even be a player. How do they do it? I usually build a defensive unit first, then a temple (to expand city size to normal and help w/happiness). By then if I've located the city in what I consider to be desirable terrain, it's usually at least size 3 or 4 and I build a settler. Then I go back and build a granary or marketplace or something to let it grow again, and then build another settler (if there's any place left to send it to!!).
Then every time a city gets to its max size (6 or 12), I build a settler every time it finishes another project. There is usually one city that is placed for high shield output, developed early, and never used to produce settlers which is the city I use to build wonders in, and I am trying to learn to use the concept of a designated "science" city that decreases how long it takes to research techs.

Obviously I am not expanding nearly fast enough, as I am seriously outpaced by all of the CPs. If all you do is crank out settlers and build more cities early in the game, though, how do you ever get anything else built?? Seems like all of your cities would remain very small (because they keep losing pop to settlers) and you would have very low production of everything!
Obviously that's not entirely the case since the CPs still manage to research tech and build wonders faster than me, but I can't figure out how they do it!!

Heike
