It's been a long time since I've played CivIII and I forgot 2 things:

1. How do I change pages in a 16 player game to look at everyone in my diplo menu?

2. How do I establish embassys?

You can also double click the names in the trade advisor screen where it lists who you can and can't trade with to make contact.

I established a colony ontop of a resource on an island, but the resource was not made available to me. Does a colony need to be connected to my network (via road to a harbor in this case) in order for it to be available to me?

Thanks!

I looked on the Customization forum, but it had a big red warngin not to post unless you had a file to upload or something, so I'm asking here. SOrry in advance.

WHat's the easiest way for me to get say 24 civs in an otherwise random game? IOW, I don't necessarily want the big earth map, and hte custom forum seemed to still be discussing various (difficult) ways to get more than the standard 7 civs.

Thanks!

Yes, and there must be a visible sea path between harbors. It is possible for barbs or enemies to cut a sea route with ships.

Use the editor (civ3edit for civ3, civ3xedit for ptw).
Go to scenario->scenario properties and set the number of civs to 24. I believe you have to also check "custom rules" and then
rules->edit rules->world sizes, set "number of civs" = 24 civs for whatever world size you want. Then save the scenario as some name, go to the ptw or civ3 start menu and "load scenario."

1. Shift-rightclick on a leaderhead.
2. Double click the star next to your own capital.

It's in the faq btw: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=298793&t=1327#post300404

Greetings!

EDIT: and the answer to your question was posted two posts before your own...

If I'm not mistaken the Civ limit is 16

No, using the editor you can have more than 16 civs. I believe I read somewhere that someone had a game in which he had 30-something civs. He created some civs of his own. I think it was Bamspeedy....

Oops! :( I just tried it in civ3 and editor won't let me have more than 16! It had been so long since I used civ3.

Thanks for the alert eyes praetorian. :)

@Norm1! sorry my fault.

I should have checked the civ3 editor. PTW allows more than 16.

I forgot to mention that in PTW multiplayer the limit is 8 civs max. PTW single player games can have more than 16.

One problem here (as Lt. Killer noted above -- I have inadvertently contributied to the confusion, unfortunately) is that the editor has changed from civ3 to ptw.

I think you are right about civ3 -- the civ3 editor's scenario page does not have any fields which control the number of turns, but the ptw editor does have these fields.

I'm confused. I was under the impression (probably from Civ II) that you could only have ONE power plant (coal, hydro, nuclear, or solar) in effect. Some of the threads I perused suggested otherwise, that building a nuclear plant on top of hydro would be better.

I usually build a factory, and add hydro (via Hoover) to that. I've never researched enough to get manufacturing plant (which, unless I'm mistaken again, should add to production).

Is there any reason to build another power plant in a city that already has a hydroplant?

Don't know if this is a bona fide "newbie" or a "bug" (didn't see that thread...) but...

I'm on the latest patch of Civ 3, playing Regent, trying to plan ahead with the Sistine Chapel by having a city building the palace. This city *already* has a cathedral, so switching shouldn't be a problem.

Silly me...

When I get Theology, not only can I not switch production but no other city can build the Sistine Chapel either (it's greyed out on the production list).

I have checked, and it wasn't automatically added to a city's production queue, so what's the prob? Do I need so many cathedrals before starting Sistine, like Wall Street? It doesn't mention that in the help guide.

I hate to waste so many sheilds! :(

You must have either:

1) Disbanded units in the city, or
2) Forrested a tile in the city radius

Either of these actions will forbid you to build a wonder, as they add shields to the total. This was implemented in a patch for Civ3 (at least in 1.29f), and is standard for PTW.

Edit: I just re-read your post. For the wonder to be greyed out in every city, you have either done the above in each city (in which case after building the next item you can build wonders again), or you do have the sistine chapel being built somewhere.

A nuclear plant (+100%) produces more shields than hydro (+50%) but can melt down. If you build it it will replace the hydro.

A third possibility is that some other Civ already has the Sistine Chapel. In which case you can't build it. But I don't think it would be greyed out in that case, it wouldn't appear. Check the F7 screen just in case.

Looking at all the confusion up there ^, is it time for separate vanilla and PTW threads?
