Not too important IMHO, but it explains why one civ suddenly turns annoyed when you change to democracy.

What about the City Production Emphasis?
AFAIK, every improvement has some attributes set in the editor. Temple has happiness, marketplace has wealth and happiness while bank has wealth only. When an AI civ decides the next improvement in a city, it will be influenced by its city production emphasis. A civ that has build wealth "often" is much more likely to start building banks than a civ that has build wealth "never".

ah! thanks. So City Production Emphasis does not affect your own gameplay.

Production emphasis may affect the suggestion what to build next in a city that has just completed a task (assuming empty build queue). But this can also be set by contacting city governor.

Hi people,

this is for PTW (latest patch)

Was playing a regular game with victory conditions set to conquest only. I conquered the Carthaginians (meaning all their cities), yet they still appear on the list of active civs! What gives?

I'm now in the modern era, know the whole map and still no carth cities. My embassy is still active, but in the espionage screen no carth cities are visible either.

Has anyone ever encountered this? Maybe they have a settler somewhere on a ship? Does that count as them still "being in the game?" Still, can't see anything. Weird.

Wandering settlers is something quite common. It could be the answer to your question.

EDIT: 'wandering settlers is...' What was I thinking?

In Civ3 when i had a settler wondering around after all my cities were destroyed the game crashed.

hmmm, thanx for the input....that really sucks...guess I gotta go settler huntin'! :D

Still, better than having a bug where the game thinks the civ is still active, when it isn't, eh?

yeah, thats what I thought....well, first time it happened to me is all!!

If you are in a fiarly advanced stage of the game, roaming settlers tend to head straight for the unclaimed land (if any is available), and you may be able to anticipate their move.

Hello. I bought my CivIII in the UK, but notice there is only one English language version of the v1.29f patch.

Does this mean that my CivIII is the same as a US version? If not, is there any way to tell which language variant I have?

I want to buy the US version of PTW (so I can get the v1.21f patch) - will it work with my UK purchased version of CivIII?

The best PTW price I could find is from dvdboxoffice.com (CDN $53.95 including shipping to the UK). Does Canada get the US English version of PTW?

Alternatively, does anyone know when the UK English PTW v1.21f patch will be released?

Thanks

AFAIK, the US and UK versions are identical apart from the copy protection they use on the CD. I am not aware of how to detect which country version you are playing.

I am not sure about this, but when you install PTW it checks to see if CivIII is installed, it doesn't require the CivIII CD to be inserted in the PC, so who knows what it checks for. It may check a reg key to look for country version, but I don't know, sorry.

No, and I feel your pain.

I have even telephoned Infogrammes UK to ask them for a release date directly, but they won't say...

I have PM'd you some info about 1.21 :D

I read a post somewhere concerning the uselessness of fighters. True. I've never seen one of my fighters shoot down an enemy bomber. Irritating. Except for recon misions. If you know enemy naval units are just outside your territory but cannot readily see them, you cannot bomb them with bombers unless you move a naval unit of your own within two tiles of the target. But suppose you have no naval units in the area. You do a recon mission to expose the target. But then you only get to do one bombing mission then the target disappears again.

OK now let's see the other side of the coin. Knowing you can't bomb them if you can't see them, You feel your destroyers are safe from air bombardment as long as they are two tiles away from the enemy's border. Ahaa! Not so! If you have a spy in the enemy's capital and know that there is only one fighter and no submarines in the AI's arsenal, it leaves you wondering why four of their bombers were just able to pound two of your destroyers in a location you believe to be unseen to them. No enemy naval units were within sight of my destroyers, and my spy informed me that they have no subs. Worse case scenario they do a recon mission then send one bomber. If the situation were reversed, that's your best case scenario. These rules somehow don't apply to the AI, though. In conclusion, AI bombers can see you no matter what.

Fighters do shoot down enemy bombers (be sure to use latest patch and put them on as mission).
AI always knows your units' positions.

edit: Padma got a well oiled key board.

Any suggestions on how to combat this AI intelligence? It seriously depletes offensive capabilities of destroyers and battleships. It forces you to keep all naval units within six tiles of an enemy city accompanied by a carrier with a fighter doing air superiority missions aboard. How unreasonable is that?

Just want to add that even though I've never seen one of my own fighters shoot down an enemy bomber, I know that putting the fighter to air superiority prevents the AI from attacking in the first place.
