Mad-Box,

When playing by yourself, and you feel it's ok to add a worker or two to build something, that's ok. Just don't do it when playing tournament.

PTW hit the market just several months ago, so don't expect package deal or Civ4 (a real far cry) in the near future. Actually, a lot of us are still waiting for a new PTW patch.

If you're lucky enough, you may find some stores cutting good deals. I bought my PTW for $20 when it was on sale at CompUSA, and once saw a local Staples dumping their Civ3 inventory for $9.99.

I got PTW for $19.95 at Walmart about three weeks ago. They were selling the CD for CTP for $5.99 at the same time.

I'm really new to the game (like 2 weeks) but I've managed to progress to modern warfare.

I read some great strategies on successfully attacking a 'other continent' enemy so I put together a battle group of two loaded carriers, several subs and four battle ships. When I got to the enemy continent I tried to launch my carriers and all I could do was *see* the planes I had put on there, but I wasn't allow to bomb anything. I was summarily clocked by the AI, which just sank my defenseless carriers and went to work on the rest of my battle group.

I'm running the game on a MAC OS 9. All I would like to do is learn the button combo or game sequence that allows me to use my carriers for something other than target practice.

I would love to RTFM, but the user's manual is devoid of any real "point on this and click here" info.

Re Carriers:

Right click (or I guess command click if you don't have a right mouse button) on the carrier. Go down and select whatever airplanes you want to use. With the later patches you can select "wake tranported." This will activate all the bombers. Then, once commanding one of the bombers (or fighters or stealth bombers, or whatever the heck planes are in there), and select the airmission you want to do.

The key feature is that you must control the plane to bomb something. The carrier does not target something for the planes. The carrier just works as a mobile airbase.

Now they're both out, you might be able to get a package deal - like $40 for two.

I am playing a Huge game, 362X362 (130,000 tiles), Pangea with 24 Civ's. I have 131 cities and when I tried to build another I received a message "too many cities".
-Is the city limitation for all Civ's combined? and what is it?
-Is there a way around this?

Yes, there is a limitation of a total of 256 (IIRC) cities. I believe it's hardcoded, and there is no way around this. Now that you've reached that maximum, only one thing to do... :soldier:

I dont agree, it is in the spirit of the game to use population to rush built thing under despotism or communist, so why are you guy talking about exploit ? if it was so, the firaxis would have correct it through patch, they correct much other thing without need ( like defense against bombardement), so pop rushing is very acceptable, war monger under communist can use captured worker to rush built, it happen in world war 2 and it happen again in civ 3. If you dont like that, it is another issue but not an exploit for sure. Food = population = whipe= rush built= culture=courthouse and so on.

IIRC, the limit is in fact 512 cities.

Yes the limit is 512 not 256.

Tassadar, are you arguing against me or are you agreeing with me... I know what you are basically saying but if I misread even slightly, my understanding will be completely off.

@Hygro:

Just for the record, Worker Dogpiling is the act of adding a worker to a city that can not support it with food, causing it to starve at the end of the turn. The next turn another worker is added to the city (so it yet again is one size larger than it can support food-wise), ad infinitum. This gives the city a permanent size bigger than it's food can support, therefore enabling wonder production that little bit quicker. Since only one worker will die each turn from starvation, all tiles can be maximised for production, and you can make the city size 21, and only have to add one worker per turn.

Tassadar (as far as I can tell), was just talking about adding a worker to a city to poprush something. This is allowed in the Tournament, unless I am mistaken.

I know you weren't explicity talking about Worker Dogpiling, but that is the only exploit I can think of that is related to adding workers to a city.

Just a quick question. Earlier I posted a question re FP and got some really helpful advice but how do I stop getting emails saying that a new post has been added to this thread now that the subject has changed?

Go to your control panel (user cp-button on the upper left) and "edit options". There uncheck the "Use 'Email Notification' by default?" option.

Sir Eric,

It sounds like you have email notification turned on.

To turn it off for ALL threads do this:

Click on the 'User Cp' button to go to your user panel.
Click the 'Edit Options' link.
Select 'no' option for 'Use 'Email Notification' by default?'.

To turn it off just for this thread do this:

Click on the 'User Cp' button to go to your user panel.
Click the 'View all subscribed threads' link.
Click 'Unsubscribe from this thread' below the entry for the Newbie thread.

There is also an option somewhere to say yes or no to subscribing to threads you reply to. I find it more useful to leave that on, so all threads I post in I get notification for, and then I jsut unsubscribe if the thread is boring ;)

Cool thanks fella's. Your advice has been pretty helpful. Anyone looking for a job? We need a new PM down here.

So I'm by no means a newbie, but this is a newbie question...

Next to where it says something like Babylon - Monarchy, there are a series of three numbers (1.9.0 or something of the sort.) What's that for?

Thanks!

How do you see the status of the OTHER civilizations' Peace Treaties/War Opponents?

Click on their picture in the F4 screen, although to see their relationships with another civ you need an embassy with one of them.

You can also hold down 'shift' to select more than 1 civ at a time.
