There is likely some easy way to do what I want, but I had no luck last night getting out of an umfavorable trade deal with the Germans, By giving wines and 10 GPT I was getting silks. It was an old (well over 20 turns) deal and not favorable at all to me. The Zulu were giving me 3 luxes and rubber for wine at this point. How/where do I click to renegotiate or end the trade deal with Germany? I looked on the trade advisor and foreign advisor without any luck at all, and tried trading with the Germans several times. What am I doing wrong?

Look on the Diplomacy Screen - the one where you say "We want <all your gold> .. We offer <nothing>" ;)

Look at the bottom. There are three options: "Clear Table", "New", and "Active". If you click on the "Active" option, the current deals you have going will be displayed. Anything that is not yet "complete" will show the number of turns remaining in brackets, i.e: "Wines [6]"

Simply click on the deal you want to end, and then click on the "New" option. The deal is cancelled, and you may now renegotiate it.

wow, never realized this!

I'm patched since 2 months.... maybe that's why...

Thank you.

I didn't know moderators answered questions like this. I thought you had you hands full keeping the flamers from bringing down the network.

Something I don't recall seeing ever asked here. Say you've got a crappy old horseman army sitting around with your modern armor. Can you disband the army in a city to help rush something, and if so, how much is a disbanded Army worth? Seeing how expensive building an Army is at the Academy, I'd think you'd get quite a few shields for disbanding one.

Interesting question: The only army I had in one of my saved games was an army with three tanks. When I disbanded it, it gave 100 shields.

After that, I disbanded 1 single armor, that gave 25 shields, so I would conclude, an armee gives 25 shields plus the value of the units in the army.

In a game quite a while ago, I disbanded several armies. It seemed to me that I always got 100 shields no matter what units the army had. However, I never tried disbanding an army with no unit in it.

Well, I'll have to remember to try this next time I've got a ancient army in the modern world. It might be really useful for rushing an improvement on another continent. You're not gonna win many horsemen army vs fortified mech infantry battles anyway:). Plus, it frees up an army if you happen to max out.

I think you get 50 shields. It doesn't depend on type of units and number of units included in army.
edit:think I'm wrong... should be 100 shields.
But I'm pretty sure that I've seen twice that it was 50 shields (3-horsemen army once, created by GL, dunno what patch version).
I wasn't on the city screen while disbanding.
Maybe it's important if army was created by academy or leader?

@BarronofIdeas: There's also a Preferences option to "renew all deals."

How does accelerated production make the game more fun for those that use it? I've never tried it before.

I haven't use that flag recently.
The 'fun' with acc prod was: start game, found first city, press end-of-turn half as often as used to and start exploring...
Seriously, I think a multi-player game *could* be more interesting with accelerated production.

Why shouldn't we answer questions like this? After all, we were Civ-players first, who became moderators after we had been on this forum for a while. ;) If I see a question, and I know the answer, I'm only too glad to help. :D (Now, if I actually *am* off somewhere stamping out a flamewar, then I won't see the question until it's already answered. :p ;) )

That was the whole idea behind Accelerated Production: to speed things up in the MP world. :D

Accelerated production (AP) changes the game massively. Things move very quickly, and it just doesn't 'feel' like civ we know and love.

I understand some people like it, but I think the majority of veteran civIII players would not play it, even for MP games.

I play in many PBEM games with other die-hard civIII fans. Every single game has AP turned off, and PBEM are the slowest of all MP games. :)

My 2 cents.

Accelerated production?

When space ships can launch in Monarch at 1100AD without it, why would you need Accelerated production? The tech tree is broken without it and totally junk with it.

It was implemented to facilitate MP, but a real waste of time actually, IMO.

One of the few things that anarres and I agree on so that is really saying something.:D

I disagree.

Accelerated production is useful- but it's only really good in online MP games. In these games, you sometimes don't know how much time you and your opponents can spend in a given game. Therefore, you want to get as much done as possible in as little time. Accelerated production can lead to both very exciting games (nice, early rush) to frustrating games (opponent pumping out a dozen defensive units a turn to counter your rush). I like accelerated production, but only for MP. Single player is juuust fine without it.

I don't think they put in AP for MP; it was for quick and fast games for the player to play.

AP was put in specifically to allow players to finish MP games faster.
