I am really enjoying all the new units everyone is making. :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob: However, I am getting anxious to play with them, and adding nearly a hundred units becomes tiring after a bit. I know you have to use them in a custom scenario, but do I have to add all the units I want to use before I begin? Or can I start the scenario and add them as I go along, preferable before they become available to build.

Cheers,
Maples

i think you can add unit graphics as you go as long as the scenario is already set up to have them already. (like add this or that unit, but you don't actually have the unit yet)... though I'm only speculating.

However that seems to be the opposite of what you want to do, so I must ask you: are you using PtW or vanilla civ3?

To answer your question, in short, no, you can't start a game and add units as you go along.

You would have to add them all beforehand, although you do not have to add the graphics right away, until the unit actually becomes available. You might want to check the Creation & Customization forum for more info about this; there are lots of people over there that know tons about adding units.

Hey guys,

I just started playing civ3, and its been fun, very addictive, and time flys. Anyways on to my question, two small things have become very anoying while playing the game. First is there a way i could disable the the tracking of the comp movement? And also how could i disable the tracking of my own city, when the mesage appears over it? It ceaps going from one city to another until it covers all the citys, and then finaly i get to my turn. And more, lets say i have 3 diffrent units on one square, instead of moving them to the same location one by one, how would i move them in a group?

Thank you

Squiqy-

1. In the preferences menu - which you can get to through the button in the top right IRC - there are buttons for "animate friend moves" and "animate enemy moves". Try deselecting some of those and see if that does what you want.

2. If the messages over your cities are to do with production, I think there's a "production pop-up" preference in the same place you could try. If it's the "We Love the King day" type stuff I think you're stuck with it.

3. If you have plain Civ3 i.e. not PTW, then there's no way; only groups of the same unit can be moved.
With PTW you can group move different units; someone with PTW will have to answer that - although I think it's been answered before, try searching this thread for "group", perhaps. Or try the FAQ thread, it might be there?

......You'll need to buy Play The World. :)

In fact you can move the group using the mouse. There are additional buttons on the PTW map screen where you can save time by not having to use the keyboard.

IMHO, buying PTW is a no-brainer for a Civ Fanatic! ;)

ok, so what is the keyboard combination for moving same troups at the same time??

BTW thanks for the help...

about the diplomacy screen for more than 8 civs;

another way to access all of the civs that I always use is to click the "D" in the bottom right corner. A list of all the civs in the game you have contacted comes up displaying if you are at peace or war with each. In my opinion, it is a much easier way to access other leaders than the shift-right click from the diplomacy screen.

D on the screen or D on the little info box?

And is a PTW-only feature, or is it in vanilla too?

What exactly defines a change in tax and/or science?

For example, I build heaps and heaps of libraries, marketplaces and change people to taxmen and sciencemen, but what makes the science rate change from say 7 turns to 6 turns?

Thanks in advance.

each technology takes a certain amount of beakers, defined by your commerce. If you increase your commerce through libraries and so forth, and allocate more commerce to science, then you will meet the required beakers faster.

I thought you would ask. For vanilla civ 3 1.29f (which shouldn't be too differant from PtW), Grey Fox made a "Tech Calc." Just find him somewhere (in many threads) on this forum and look in his signature.

Hey thanks that's great!

Does that mean I will have to count all my beakers in all my cities to find out how many turns it will take?

Also how many beakers do you actually get from libraries and universities etc.

Thanks in advance :)

joedoe: generally you 'play it by ear' rather than trying to work out how long it's going to take beforehand. Note that your science output will likely change while you're researching the technology anyhow.

A library increases science output for the city to 150% of what it would normally be. A library and university combined increase science output for the city to 200% of what it would normally be. A library, university, and research centre combined increase science output for the city to 250% of what it would normally be.

Marketplaces, banks, and stock exchanges increase gold output in the same way.

well first I would adivse browsing the ingame civilpedia: it will tell you how libraries and universities help. Take 50% of the base commerce going into science and add that to the current. (+50%) This is true for libraries, universities, and research labs.

To add up all the beakers hit f1 (domestic advisor) and see on the top how much of youyr income goes to science.
