It would be better if you reported battle results. Like did we kill any of your troops. Normally that sort of stuff is reported on the thread as I can't see what happens. This is not like multiplayer where I have the chance to see a fight going on.

The veteran horseman went in to soften up the defending spearman, lost a lot of early ground (2/4), then somehow won

Irritated to find another spearman, our veteran swordsmen redlined himself in exposing the rather sick archer remaining.
The honour of despatching him was provided to a spearman
, with others following to re-inforce the city.

Our scout recognizes the imminence of Praetarian iron.
Our generals are loudly debating, after several flagons of remarkably cheap Arabian and Chinese liqueurs, whether the Praetarians will have any idea what to do with it when it arrives.
Our new Beijing garrison sees the Praetarian spearmen meander off in search of inspiration, or a new strategy, or both.
