This time almost everyone chose to go for domination, space, or diplo.

Fastest victories went to @Powerfaker (1440 AD domination, and indeed the fastest victory of any type), @Jovan Kukic (1515 AD diplo), @neilmeister (1760 AD space) and @Deckhand (religious, 1700AD, the only entry that wasn't dom/diplo/space. And surely close to a record for the latest date for a religious win!). @Termitnik achieved the gold medal with a 1530 AD domination win - later than @Powerfaker but a much bigger score.

Everyone who submitted a victory also complied with the letter of the special rules - so, well done all. No-one went for culture or conquest (despite that the game rules did leave a couple of loopholes by which you could theoretically get a conquest win).

And by the way, I massively enjoyed reading peoples write-ups of your games in the spoiler threads! Thanks! :goodjob:

Summary of Medal Winners:

Here's where everyone settled. Looks like the division here was between those who chose to remain riverside and those who moved to get extra hammers in the city tile. Medals and awards went to both groups, so I suspect there wasn't a huge advantage to either strategy.

The Small Print:

The numbers by each player's name indicate the turn settled on (starting turn is 0). Players are colour coded by game class (challenger=red, adventurer=blue). Symbols indicate victory condition, if there's no symbol then the player either retired or was defeated. The yellow border indicates the land that was visible at the start of the game.

By the way, in case you're wondering about some of the things about the map...

In your starting house, the mountains represented he walls, and the hills the furniture. All resources were on the hills because - well, you're not going to put your food and stuff on the floor, are you! All hills were forested to emphasise the height difference, with just a couple of exceptions to make sure that you and Queen No! could actually get some resources at the start of the game.

Same rules applied in the supermarket, except that there the hills/forests were the supermarket shelves. Other parts of the map were more random and true to form for a standard map, except that the conspiracy theorists - in keeping with their tradition - inhabited a land of total fantasy.

Covid started with several marines and infantry on his main landmass, just to make defeating the virus a bit more challenging - that explains the strange powergraph that some people noticed at the start of the game. But that landmass was only reachable by astronomy - just to make sure there was no chance of the infantry turning up on your doorstep when you only had axemen - I'm really not that evil! He also had his city on an island you could reach, but no super-advanced defenders there. I wasn't actually sure how many infantry you'd encounter, as experience in the past shows that the AI seems to have some tendency to self-delete super-advanced units. But it looks from the final spoiler like a few of you met them.

The Supermarkets' leader was none other than Sid, the creator of Civilisation. Unfortunately, a minor quirk in the game is that Sid has no memory of diplo requests. Which means he can't remember that he asked you for something the previous turn - hence why he comes to you every turn. The upside is that you can refuse him every time and it never affects his opinion of you. I tried to make sure that wasn't too annoying by placing him far enough away that, by the time you met him, each turn would be quite long and involve lots of moves, so the diplo at the end of each turn wouldn't be too noticeable. Obviously didn't completely work judging from some of the comments in the final spoiler.:lol:

Deckhand (religious, 1700AD, the only entry that wasn't dom/diplo/space. And surely close to a record for the latest date for a religious win!).
Religious victory certainly wasn't the plan. I was two turns away from Domination with 30 cav next to Willem's capital when opportunity for Religious victory vote came up. OK, let's win a turn sooner (and get some medals). :mischief: Just played "one more turn", capture the capital and get in range to take 2 more cities. He capitulates at start of turn and puts me over 65% (>62) for domination.
Spoiler Shall I take a religious victory? :

Very much enjoyed the game and really appreciate all the effort to make it. Haven't read or written any spoilers (yet); I took some screenshots of interesting stuff in case I can make time for that later.

Thanks for explanation about the furniture etc. How did you edit new city lists into the worldbuilder file? and what were all the names?

Very enjoyable. I was going for all-time fastest ever culture (thru espionage). Easy -- except for the requirement to kill the Pathogens, and I bet the farm on not needing Astronomy. Even if they had been reachable, I'm not sure I could have taken out Infantry and still got fastest ever culture win. I retired and moved to the Rameses game.
But I got to enjoy the cleverness of the scenario.

Yay! Highest score without an award/medal! :crazyeye:

I see I was only 45 years behind Termitnik's win, but somehow his domination earned twice as many points as mine. I wonder if studying the graphic replays will give me a hint about how that happened.

BTW, I never saw any of those super-advanced Pathogen units, and I'm very glad about that.

You have to edit the WorldBuilder file in a text editor. As far as I know you can't do it in the normal Worldbuilder tool. Check out the WB file, which is now downloadable from the results page. You basically list the city names in order with the declaration of each Civ. As an example

Code:
BeginPlayer
    Team=0
    LeaderType=LEADER_NAPOLEON
    LeaderName=Lord Lemme-Out!
// all the usual other stuff for each leader
    CityList=Great GOTM City
    CityList=Master Bedroom
    CityList=Living Room
// etc.
EndPlayer

The city names were:

Thanks for the extra effort put into this game. It is much appreciated!

Now we are talking technicalities, why didn't you lock us in always peace with "The Nurses"? I know this is possible because it has been done in several SGOTM's.

My understanding of the WorldBuilder is that if I'd locked you into always-peace with the nurses, then I'd have also had to lock you either into always-peace or into always-war with all the other civs. I'm not aware of any way to lock an always-peace with only some of the AIs while permitting you to declare war as you please against other AIs. (But if you know differently, or if there is an SGOTM that has done that, then let me know and I'll check it out).

In the very first SGOTM (1) the player was locked in peace with one civ and locked in war with another. There was also an SGOTM were the player was locked in peace with Gandhi and had to destroy everyone else using nukes. Don't recall the number. This option may, however, not be available from world builder. I think some of the SGOTM creators edited the maps with a text editor because this gave them more options.

Oh wow! I just downloaded that game and had a look at the WorldBuilder. You're right - it does seem that it's set up for permanent peace with Gandhi, permanent war with Huayna, and normal relations with everyone else. And it's done in a way that looks to me like it's probably not possible in the WorldBuilder editor, but is possible with the text editor. I'll need to test it out a bit more to see if it works, but if so, that means it is possible to lock a player into permanent war or peace with only some AIs. And looks like it's also possible to do the same with AIs. You learn something new every day, thanks @Frederiksberg

(And you realise that, if this works, this opens up a whole new range of different scenarios that we can use in future BOTMs) :mischief:

In some of the early SGOTMs they actually used a specific Mod for each game with special rules, not sure if that was what was going on there.

Gyathaar was famous for making these special games. I remember an SGOTM where the player was teamed up with the barbarians! Quite and extraordinary game.

Certainly looks that way!!
