News: BOTM 42 Results and Congratulations

Congrats to all, especially C63. When you got fastest cultural victory for your Eptathlon, did you beat Jesusin or did you find out when he was on vacation :D.

@ Frederiksberg: Great game Fred.

If I'm going to be anywhere near competitive i the Botm43 space challenge I need a lot of help...

Took a look at your save: Why did you not incorperate the Standard Ethanol in Lisbon

Thanks z3. You can get some ideas for playing a space race by reading Duckweeds spoiler from BOTM37 and you can of course also read my Game Log from this game. There are also some old SGOTMS, but they usually have some twists that make them a little special.

Reason for not incorporating Std. Ethanol in Lisbon was health, since this corporation produces oil and oil means less health. It may have been possible to do anyway but I didn't bother to calculate the implications of starving the city.

Funny that you and srad both decided to go after score instead of fast domination. I suppose he used Sushi to boost it, did you do that as well?

:thanx:

No!
I've been trying to achieve fastest conquest or domination for many Xotms now, and reading the 1. spoiler (all the rushing of Joao) gave me the impression that I was late again . Score was still climbing, so I delayed domination and just focused on pop growth until I could vassalage the remaining two AI on the same turn. :crazyeye:

Played this game after submissions closed. I had a problem with no flanking damage against stacks of trebs, cats and hwacha when Cuirassiers won or withdrew from attack against stacks. I have BTS3.12 with patches 3.17 and 3.19 and BUFFY mod installed. I downloaded fresh copies of patches and mod and reinstalled (with administrator rights) but still no flanking damage.

A new worldbuilder game showed that flanking damage was working in my installation, so is there something I'm not understanding how flanking damage on siege works, or was this peculiar to this BOTM for unknown reason?

Were the defenders in a city or fort? I don't think flanking works if they are.

you don't get flanking damage when the siege unit is in a city. Was that the problem?

Thanks pskarky and Jaybone, it seems I have a two part problem:
1. I did not know that flanking damage does not work against siege units in cities and forts, even though I've been playing two years; you never stop learning. This was the first game I remember using mounted as main city attackers (except for early chariots and HA). However, I can't find this documented anywhere.
2. Flanking damage still not working outside cities with BUFFY, but ok with patched BTS in other games tested. Will follow up in technical support thread.

Not all types of Horse-based units will inflict Flanking Damange on all types of Siege-based units. I think that at least on this detail, you can rely on the Civilopedia for correctness. I.e. Look at the appropriate Civilopedia entry for the Horse-based unit that you are using to attack with (errr, maybe it's Sevilopedia or something like that with BUFFY, but whatever).

I was a bit stupid back then: thinking XOTM works the same as HoF games. It works in regards to score. (Domination favoured) :p I admit it is frustrating to have chosen CV knowing Jesusin is around...because there is no second position.
Nothing against you, Jesus, just...you are goddamn too good for a mortal like me. I'm a better warmonger than peacemonger, but the start screams for a cultural victory.
