Immortal is tough. Even starting with iron working and all the jungle you could hope to chop, we had plenty of losers and incompletes.
Distant AIs not only kept you safe from them, but also kept them safe from you at the start. You all treated the Spaniards better than they treated the Aztecs historically - no one eliminated them from the game. Two games in a row without anyone meeting my challenge, guess I will need to make it easier next time.

AI Spaceship win was as popular as Player Domination (5 each). Only 1 Diplomatic and only 1 Cultural (I think we are all hesitant to compete with Jesusin).
Very impressive dates by the Medal Winners:

Here's where everyone settled.

The Small Print:
The numbers by each player's name indicate the turn settled on (starting turn is 0). Players are colour coded by game class (challenger=red, adventurer=blue). Symbols indicate victory condition, if there's no symbol then the player either retired or was defeated. The yellow border indicates the land that was visible at the start of the game.

Isabella is pretty in my eyes.

Thank you for choosing Aztec. I like aggresive/protective leaders the most and his uu & ub is fantastic to me.

I think we are all hesitant to compete with Jesusin

He's the Epatathlon testimonial. Maybe we need 7.:)

Nice game Sossos! :) What did you use there to conquer them?

Well done to all the winners/entrants again and thanks deckhand for the scenario. Fun game.

A mix of jaguar(upgraded to mace later), HA and finally knights. Winning conquest victory by Jaguar only should be cool for this map, which may require moving settler in the first 10 turns.

Really enjoyed this one, so thanks Deckhand. Impressive date, sossos!

Thank you. This game may be more interesting if every one is closer and the Aztec is in the middle of the map. In that way, Jaguar may play an more important role.

I'm surprised (disappointed) no one marched out of the corner with the initial settler (for easy conquering). I thought a couple players were going to try that.

A couple did. And posted in the first spoiler thread. And were never heard from again.
Spoiler :
I'm really enjoying this game. I like the rainforest map, it makes me appreciate the terrain more. I haven't chopped a forest yet, I value them too much, both as a buffer against the jungle and a possible source of hammers and health. (Edit: well naturally I did chop the forested hills. I meant that I haven't chopped any forested grasslands).

Playing contender, I settled on turn 13, close to the Americans. Borrowing an idea from the pregame thread :goodjob:. I used my first jaguar to steal an American worker. But then, after that the Americans built a lot of archers and it became hard to take their capital. Maybe the real killer strategy would have been to build my own worker and hold out for a surprise-attack with 4 jaguars.

However, when I finally managed to take the American capital, things did start to go my way. Was it too late for me to pull off a victory ? Time will tell.

Which save did you take? The one with IW
Where did you settle? Where you lucky enough to find the forested deer? I think you had to move next to it to see the deer. What dear? Oh Deer!
I moved along the river thinking I can find an AI but stopped when the jungle became very thick. Settled N of the Plains Hill about 6W3S of original position. It had 2 pigs, nana's, plains tile and horses. 8 total hammers for the use with a forge.

Did you already kill any AIs No but Barbs nearly killed me instead.
Did you meet Isabella yet? So that is who founded the early religion? Not much exploration for me for a change due to some crazy barb issues created due to where I settled. I did meet Izzy after 0AD but saying that should not spoil anyone and she is angry at me for not giving in to a demand.
And how did your game go up to 1AD? Had some major bad luck with barbarians because I settled too far west and toward the center. I was saved by the resource independent UU. This is the first game in about 5 years that I had less than 6 cities by 1AD. Actually would have had 4 but a missed click moved my Jag to a wrong tile and a barb warrior razed it. It was a very food heavy city near the American border with horses, pigs (which city did not?), deer, cow and Stone. It was replaced within 5 turns. Once my 4 cities were founded, I got into a whole lot of barb problems again, some of these Barb issues were self created since I would attack Barb archers in jungles with my Jags. Some won others did not but I ended up with CR2 Jungle runners.

I took AH, Mining, BW, The Wheel, PH and Writing Tech path to Oracle CoL but was not the first to discover the religion. Only knew 4 Ai at 0AD but met all before100AD. There were a decent amount of tech trading but I did accept the religion of the expansive AI and he is on his ways to being a Friend, so there should not be too much issues with trades later on. I had 12 turns left of Literature and am hoping to build the Glib. Will see.
Too bad they didn't submit their incomplete saves for us to see.

Congrats to winners.

Sorry Deckhand, I was down with the flu last few weeks and out of it. I tried to get a few turns in the middle of it, thinking I was getting better, and ended up making things worst for the game and myself.

My game was very hard due to poor decisions and delirious diplomacy. I was able to peacefully expand to 14 cities. Also handed 3 barb cities to America (1) and Joao (2) when I failed to capture them with 1 very damaged surviving barb archer. AI were able to capture IBT. I stopped there around 500AD. I was out for a while after that.

Next time I played, because I could not stay asleep, I accidently DOWed the wrong AI (America) when my forces were waiting to pounce on 3 of Joao cities. Funny thing was that my units were using American cities group and were planning to use American culture to attack Joao's cities with cuirassiers.

Oh well, I was able to vassal America but ended up loosing the window to attack Joao who had acquired 2 vassals by the time I was ready to war him again and had Rifles. So I turtled to Cannons and was ready to take on Joao when his former Vassal Bill and his new vassal Lissy DoWed me. I looked at the clock and it said it was past 2 AM and I limped to bed with my tail between my legs and very grumpy.

As for settling toward the middle of the map, I chickened out too early. I should have risked going several more turns but I was not sure if I was going toward an AI and seeing the end of the river make me want to settle where I did. Either case, it was hard to place 5 fog busters into place with the bad luck I had with barbs. So most of my early Jags were protecting the 3 city (lost the 4th to a barb warrior) empire let alone attack anyone. Next time :scan:.

@Htadus, :lol:

Thanks for the update.

I know you will do better "Next time :scan:."

I thought about conquering the world by Jaguars only. It could have been true if I had known the map. However, I couldn't risk doing so because I might be on an isolated land as designed in one of GOTMs before.

This is different from HOF when you can regenerate maps for dozens of times and try random numbers(huts and hill cities and DOW odds) until it fits your fixed plan.

Another reason is that I've got fast conquest award before, so it's natural to try a different type. I'm easily bored when doing the same thing again and again.

I didn't see STW's post either. He's maybe trying a religous victory.

I've downloaded your save and it seems like you bulbed Engineering and maybe Machinery too with some GS by avoiding the Fishing line. Yet you didn't build any Trebs. Some thoughts on this?

Yes, it's a very natual strategy as there're very few fishing resources on this map. However, I didn't bulb Machinery because AI got it first. I traded the machinery, researched Guild/CS and bulb Engineering, and the purpose of Engineering is just for the 3 moving points. My war engine is too far away from the battle field, so the return rate of slow trebs are too low.

Because this map can be won by Jaguar or HA only, the Engineering bulb(very late in my game) is not that important. Instead, Feudalism is the most important for a fast conquest/domination game.

Thanks. Yeah, the map we had makes it appealing and I also did it in my game. However, as you say, Trebs are too slow and they were only marginally useful for me. That's why I asked, I understand it was only marginal for you too so I wondered what was your reasoning especially since you didn't build any Trebs at all. Agreed, getting the first vassal fast is key.

Yeah, I went with trebs/maces... it was slow.

I should have waited for Cav's.
