Well what a game! Deity is always a huge challenge and this game was no exception. Unusually, the top scoring game was an adventurer save – by Solyaris, who won a domination victory in 1160AD with a rather impressive 336K score. But, being adventurer, no awards allowed, so the gold medal went instead to Xcalibrator’s 1630AD domination victory, with sleepless and hhhawk getting silver and bronze, also for domination. Indeed, the only non-domination contender victory was afker’s 1690AD cultural game. MarkM achieved the only a space win - in 1887AD, but this was another adventurer game so, like Solyaris no fastest finish award. The fact that even amongst the adventurer submissions, most people playing faced defeat shows the challenges you had to face on this crowded map. Well done everyone for at least surviving to 0AD (which everyone managed)!

Here's where everyone settled.

The Small Print:
The numbers by each player's name indicate the turn settled on (starting turn is 0). Players are colour coded by game class (challenger=red, adventurer=blue). Symbols indicate victory condition, if there's no symbol then the player either retired or was defeated. The yellow border indicates the land that was visible at the start of the game.

Well played everyone. I thought I had not uploaded my save, but I'm happy I did.

Can I request that the next epic speed game has a normal speed challenger? This could be in addition to any other equalizing measures you feel are needed.

I'm quite impressed at the military victories. I found that I did not have enough production to build an army. Perhaps it is the lack of experience with epic speed that it tricking my senses.

Thanks for an interesting and challenging game.

Hard game indeed. Congratulations to all winners!

Oooh, my first gold! (Actually, first medal of any kind, I think.) Clearly I should quit while I'm ahead, although I now know the trick: Play a hard game that few people want to try, do it toward the end of an ongoing SGOTM when many people are too busy to devote time to another game, and hope for RNG luck. :)

Congrats to all for playing! With that kind of score and date, Solyaris, it's too bad you didn't try the Challenger save! Great game, Yamps. I'm too much of a softie toward my citizens.

Wow, deity dominations in 17xx, 16xx, and even 1160 - unbelievable. Congrats to victors, condolences to losers :)

Well done everyone for at least surviving to 0AD (which everyone managed)!
Now that's really comforting
This is a very bad trait of mine, but I have to admit I feel better now seeing that half of participants suffered a loss or retired. Sorry about that.

My medal is also from a deity game. Competition in deity games are much easier.

1160AD wasn't deity - that was an adventurer game - in this game, adventurer was playing at emperor level, although the AI had deity starting units making it a bit harder than normal emperor.

It's likely that the published results understate how many people lost or retired, since many people who are going to lose won't bother submitting.

Congrats on your game XCal and hope to see you again in some GOTM/SGOTM! :) I'll likely play the next one, there's got to be some time for play along with everything else.

Thanks for explanation, but I knew that, just worded it wrongly. Having played adventurer save myself and being slaughtered by 13 AIs I'm amazed with all 9 victories but imho this very hard emperor difficulty doesn't make Solyaris' result any less impressive.

Good to know :)
I have no idea how to implement this, but HOF mod should have a mandatory submission feature where you can't play CIV anymore unless you submit your save

Nice job to those who won this game. This was no easy task!!!

I don't like submitting loser games, so I kept my loss to myself. I should have predicted the strategic resource generosity of the mapmaker and played to it, but I tried to take standard approach to a deity game and built the Great Lighthouse, then settled the islands. I put my first priority as peaceful settling of the Marble/rice. Of course, since playing deity, I lost this spot quickly.

I have found over the years that there is an interesting situation that develops on Deity. It is this: your nearest neighbor often becomes the most powerful AI in the game. Of course, this happens because the AI can spam settlers/cities with little consequence to overall growth and research. Since the player is severely disadvantaged with regard to peaceful expansion, that AI is often a beast. Knowing this, it is foolish of me to try to expand peacefully. Kill, kill, kill.

Again, excellent job to those that overcame deity AI!!!
