News: BOTM 79 - Starts 15 June

spoilers - I didnt play yet, but this map type struck me and I think anyone would agree it would fit the description (with modifications)
Spoiler :

I think - donut type map with desert center , we are in the middle of the desert
would go with the football arena theme....

note that the desert regions would be really large in this case, maybe as much as 40 or more tiles toward nearest border

the questions would be:
how many cities settle in our oasis
expand beynd the esert yes/no (maintenance costs)
expand with settlers/military
IE stay in our oasis or expand beyond.
cities in desert? i think not. deserts are not what they used to be in civ2
if stay would AI later runaway and smash us?

I agree with you. I just hope the promised rivers that now flow through the deserts create floodplains that I can use instead of being completely surrounded by useless desert.

I think I might try the adventurer class, since the GOTMs I've seen are more difficult than random games. Worries me a bit that the save is 2 difficulty levels less than the contender save, isn't it usually just one below? Is this game going to be so hard that I need that much help? Oh wells should still be easy to win the game on Noble.

Just started thinking about this one... I LOVE settling on 3H base squares, so will likely send one scout to the stone hill and one to the marble hill, and see which site looks better.

From what we see, stone includes gold, which is two gpt better than the silver that goes with Marble. However marble is useful for the Oracle, which is the only wonder likely to go before the other resource is hooked up (unless I want to consider stonehenge, but is that really worth it... Maybe?)

With so much of the land in both site uncovered, I guess it is hard to know which is better for now, so I will make the decision after I have moved the scouts...

I just hope I do not end up like Buridan's ass.

Too bad I just learned about the World Cup themed XOTMs today...Not sure if I will be able to finish this one, but it looks like a valid excuse to try to come out of my semi-retirement. :)

After all, now I have 2 full days without games until the Brazil vs Germany semifinal match comes up on Tue. :D

:goodjob:

I've recently been setting the Adventurer level two levels below Contender in several xOTM games:
  • If you have trouble at level N, then N-1 isn't that much of a handicap.
  • You aren't eligible for medals anyway, so why not make it even easier.
It may or may not be a hard setup. Decide what level you are comfortable with or enjoy most and go with that.

Yeah.... I know. :hammer2:

No one would guess from start that it was hammers that were the problem, not food
