Civilization VI - Game of the Month 2

Welcome to the 2nd game in the 6OTM Series! These games will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out the new features in Civ6 in a friendly environment. Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for. We will be working to refine the 6otM concept as we move ahead with the series.

Must Read!
We would like to ask you to abide by our most sacred rule: Don’t replay any turns! If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to 1 turn. In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous save and play it as closely to how you played it the first time. Please let Leif know (via Conversation (Private Message)) if you experienced a crash and how many turns you replayed.

Spoiler :
Please note: If you wish to make a video of your game, please do not post any links to it until after the game submission date has passed. This is because of the potential spoilers that are created by posting before the end date. Thank you for your cooperation.

Announcement thread (this one): This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don’t be afraid to ask questions). It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Once you have opened the save, DO NOT POST in the Announcement thread, even non game-related information. Instead use the next thread.

Opening Actions thread: This thread is used to discuss the game's opening decisions and strategies through the first 100 or so turns. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. We encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshot. During the time the game is active, please do not post any information concerning the game outside of the spoiler threads including screen shots, videos, or recorded/live-cast Let's Plays on other websites.

After Actions thread: In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state your victory/loss date and final score (preferably in the post title) and describe your path to glory in this post! Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after one month, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.

Results and Congratulations thread: We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the one month submission period (sorted by date and score). We will issue medals to the top 3 winners (based on earliest date finished). There are no long-term records kept for these results, they are just given out to top finishers to reward their efforts.

Well, i expected Gorgo for the second GotM as she was second in the poll. I didn't expect an island map, that will be the first time i play on this map.

Looks like a nice starting location. Some decent production for a change from the Rome game. Mountains for Holy Site and/or Campus. Will probably move the warrior on the woods but unless something incredible is of the coast settle in place. The stone/hill would have to be harvested at some point to make room for an Acropolis next to the city center but would provide nice production until Apprenticeship comes online.

I'll try not to loose my progress this time :o

This looks like a very very nice start for a Culture victory, there are a lot of options open on this starting location so I think we'll see a wide-range of strategies on this one.

Silks to provide some early culture
Plenty of tiles to chop
Multiple Stonehenge, Oracle, Cristo Redentor spots
Marsh for Mont St Michel
Tile 1W looks very good for an Industrial Zone
Tiles to build Acropolis
Tiles to the south for both Holy & Science District

I'm tempted to settle 1 tile to the left so I have the option of an early harbor in my capital which would help me towards Cartography later on, it depends on what the warrior finds really.

I'm used to playing with tile yields switched on as I can't visually tell the difference between a few of the different types of tile - maybe you can turn this on for future GOTM annoucement threads?

Glad I got done with Rome yesterday, going to download latter and start on it. (Although I will have to look up the requirements for a cultural victory as I still am not 100% sure how you get it.)

Did not download yet. Will take this slow. I've got 2 wins on culture but at lower level. One of the wins was wonder spam. I might try that here depending on the island.

Bit afraid of this one, because of the difficulty level and because internet seems to be full of topics, how culture victory is something mysterious. But i think it will make another great learning experience.

I've tried a few practice games with these settings and this difficulty level is a bit too hard for me. Since this is the mid-month game I was expecting a lower difficulty. After all that's the pattern we're used to from Civ 5 GotM.

This is interesting! Never played the map type and never played for this victory condition, so I don't know at all what to expect.

There are a lot of different ways to approach a culture victory. Should I spam wonders? Should I go all in science for fast radio and computers? Should I go all in culture for great works and cultural wonders? Should I aim at religion and artifacts? Or maybe just kill everyone except one last opponent and hope for the best? Which is the fastest? I have absolutely no clue! Very much looking forward to seeing what kind of results people achieve with different strategies.

Culture? I don't think I have ever won a culture victory. Should be interesting.

Hopefully we will get a conquest one soon, I like killing stuff :)

Excellent - hadn't realised there would be two games a month (Game of the Month and all that) so very glad I finished up GOTM1 last night! Immortal is not something I've tried before so a bit apprehensive but let's see how we go (if you see no further posts from me that probably means it went badly!)

Starting position is interesting. Settling in place looks good - extra food, production and a strategic resource within the first ring, a luxury in the second ring, and the potential to put a harbour in the third ring. But nagging in the back of my mind is that because this is an islands map the landmass might be pretty small (is that a cliff edge on the far right?). In that case settling right on the coast so that you can have ships before harbours would be handy, and it would also bring the second river at the very bottom of what we can see in to play as a possible second city site. Hmmm....

This gotm seems really interesting. I've yet tried culture vic nor island map. I couldn't resist downloading and playing this. :)

So can you build a theater district on something other than a hill with this leader?
My understanding is, no, you can only build the acropolis on a hill, and there's no other theater district (or equivalent) that can be built elsewhere.

Anyone know what happens if Greece captures a city with a theater district not on a hill?

finnaly i will try this GOTM :))) i played every CIV a lot....but i have missed this feature on this forum... great idea :) i´ll play this savegame :)

Welcome to Civfanatics.

Are you looking for the game save? The link is located at the bottom of the first post in this thread, below the screenshot.

Thanks Leif!
I noticed that after a half day, but am at work so no problem :) But I cannot find where I should put in on my computer. I cannot find my savegame map in steam folder...
Cannot find my savegames at all!

The save files are located in your my documents folder. On my computer, it is:
D:\Documents\my games\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Saves\Single

Good luck!

This looks like a great start and it'll be my first game on Immortal, so it should be fun, while not necessarily lengthy.
