GOTM 77 Pre-Game Discussion



This will be our quarterly high difficulty game - Deity level. China has been underrepresented in the GOTM's, so Mao gets a turn. We'll take a departure from other recent quarterly games and actually DECREASE the map size, to Small, but you'll still get an extra week, so you should have plenty of play time to show the 5 Deity AI's their place!

Civilization: China
Rivals: 5, preset
Barbarians: Raging
Difficulty: Deity
Land Form: Continents, 70% ocean, Small map.
Geology: 5 billion years old, Wet, Temperate

Conquest-Class Bonuses:
  1. Free Pottery AND Free The Wheel
  2. 100 Extra Gold (until the AI demands it!)
  3. 2 Bonus Archers


Predator-Class Challenges:
  1. No Warrior Code
  2. Riders cost an extra 10 Shields
  3. +1 to AI Unit Support per city

A reminder: do not post any game information to this thread after you have downloaded the save file. Absolutely no spoiler information for this or any GOTM is to be posted in this thread!
 
A four-turner. We could mine one Cattle tile (simpler), or we could irrigate both and share one with another city (better, but complicated). We also have to make sure that we get Pottery (66 beakers) fast enough. We have The Pyramids as a pre-build for the Granary, but should it be removed for predators, then the Settler is the second-best alternative with only 30 shields.
 
But we'd probably build 2-3 warriors before the granary for MP and recon...
And the river should provide enough commerce to get pottery in some ten turns. :hmm:

China on deity and continents - we might see some riders in action :bounce:
Gotta look back to Sir Pleb's legendary game - was it Gotm 38?

Fast conquest might require to build the GLH for ourselves. Recent Gotms tend to put a productive civ on the wrong side of the sea... :rolleyes:

Most people try to figure out which victory condition they want... I have a feeling I'm going to try to decide which ambulance I want.

How pretty. As it happens, China were the first civ I beat Deity with, getting a Rider-based Domination on a tiny Pangea. But for this game I'll try something more peaceful. I wonder how hard a Cultural win would be? 20k would be possible with the good starting position and good traits. 100k could take a while with it being a small map, and needing to use resources on soldiers.

I won't be starting this game for a couple of weeks, but I'll sure be looking forward to it!
 
I've updated the first post with Bonuses and Challenges. I decided to give the Conquest class 2 free Techs (since the AI is likely to snag the gold from you ;) ).
 
I actually think the rare 4 turn combo will work here.

@Size 5, we have Irrigated Cow (2-1) mined cow (1-2), 3 BG's (0-6) and the base city square (2,1)

2+1+0+2=5 food, plus Granary=2 turn growth, and 1+2+6+1=10 shields, enough for a warrior/settler combo.

I'm new to these combos, so tell me if I'm wrong. I'm running a test game now that I designed in the Editor with our exact starting spot.

EDIT: No, It doesn't work, I forgot about the stupid corruption in the capital.
