News: TSG13 Announcement

I think i will build 4 cities before NC to have time to build all these monuments and temples before education. If it's really luxuries poor, i might go at war instead and try to sue gold for peace.

I just did a test game on Quick speed to see the effect of Legalism on Siam. It prioritizes the cheapest culture building available, which means Monument over Monastary over Temple over Wat. So to get the Wat, you must have a Monument and a Temple in the city, and have education. You do NOT need a library, though.

Also, from past experience: Legalism *will* affect puppets, as long as you own them before you select Legalism. It will not work on new puppets, even if you haven't done four cities yet.

Hmm... as a "semicore player", I tried a test Siam game with Incense in the starting location and wanted to see whether it makes sense for me to aim at the free Wats or just farm the incense and sell it to boost early production and cashflow.

I had my capital and another city with a lot of hammer/gold/culture. However by the time I could build wats (8 turns in my first 2 cities), they cost me like 50 turns in city 3 and 4, which were generally not producing a lot. I did not build them there. Rather I used some cities I conquered from enemies to place wats.

My (kind of standard) focus is getting the luxes, selling them, try to ally with all available city states, fill out patronage (schlaticism asap), this will bring science far ahead of any other civ, even without RAs. Also culture wise I keep the pace of leading civs that way. I rarely use rationalism, that may be an area of improvement. I always have the feeling that it is more useful to fill out an additional patronage policy vs. a rationalism one if I have at least 5 or 6 allies. Is that correct?

It will depend a little on available resources in the GOTM on whether I will try to aim at the free wats.

Mac player here. Nice to be able to play with you guys for once.
Gotta say though, you guys are going into details I've not even thought of. Seems like the windows GOTM will be a great place to learn. :)

I've learned way more about Civ (starting with Civ4) from reading RealmsBeyond and CivFanatics than from actually playing. The community on both of those sites have been tremendous.

I'm planning to do this, and this will be my first GoTM, so I'm excited about it.

How can I transfer that save file in the OP to my game? I am running Windows Vista.

Hi,
Welcome to GoTM. :wavey:

When you click on the link, you should see the file and your computer should ask you where to save it. You should save is in My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civ5\Saves\Single.

When you start Civ5, click on "Load Game" and you should see it so you can load it and play.

Good Luck!
