Am I right in thinking that the sea and its wales can or should be ignored, however attractive the picture of the starting location might look?

I'm thinking happiness would be a major problem if the capital isn't founded on the coast as the RNG has designated Whales as the primary luxury.

But God of the Sea pantheon requires you to also have some way to found a religion if you want to keep using it; which going for Domination you might not have time to go after.

Maybe not. You can have CI and Notre Dame in AI caps.
Great wall is more troublesome. An AI tradition/god of protection/great wall is really a pain (and a frustration with a CB or XB in garrison).

I think about liberty / god of craftsmen. I hope to have a lots of horses for a Mandekalu rush. I'll try this.

But will the AI(s) that build those two be anywhere near you? Seems kind of risky to bet the farm in 4000 BC that a high wonder flavor AI will start next to you.

OTOH, the biggest difference between playing just for fun and playing in a competition for fastest turn of victory is that some risks have to be taken to have a shot at winning the competition.

So you can have CI and Notre Dame by your own. It'll slow down your progress.
