News: TSG91 Announcement

Huh, another victory type I've never gone for in Civ V(though it was my specialty in Civ IV), and on a higher difficulty level than I've played before.

I'm not certain I'll even win, but I think my early plan right now is that I'll forgo the militaristic bonuses that the Mongols get and go for a small empire(possibly take down a few close CS's but nothing major), and for a fast, lean teching machine. ...I'll probably lose though.

Are "Recalled to Life" leaders required to vote for their liberator? Can this be abused?
I think it was Cromagnus that said yes, as long as you were not the one that killed that civ, they will vote for you in the WL vote, and yes it can be abused. I have not tested it. But frankly in these diplo games getting enough votes on standard is pretty easy, the challenge for early turn win seems to be how fast you can tech to either atomic or info, depending on # of surviving civs, and time everything right.

I think who is with us in the continent, specially what kind of CSs, will be interesting and define the game.

We might be isolated. Maybe there will be one CS with us.

I don't think many people, myself included have ever played the kind of aggressive CS killing machine that the Mongols are designed to be. It doesn't get discussed much on these boards. I tried a peaceful science approach and by the time I reached Astronomy, I had nothing built. No ships, no Keshiks, no Khans.

I plan to build men and kill stuff right away as much as the terrain allows. I need to play a 'regular' map with the Mongols to test the timing of CS aggression.

I'm a bit fuzzy on how fast DV works. I usually just kill and fast tech to atomic, not worrying about timing the vote and such. But assuming I want to try and "do it right" for this GOTM, what is the rule about timing? Is it as simple as entering atomic with 2 civs left a few turns before the next WC vote? Then it's just a simple matter of waiting 15 turns?

If that's the case, then how early you get printing press matters, right? Too early and you have to wait 2 or 3 rounds...

What's the preferred tech order then? To Archaeology, then PP, then ST, and enter atomic by penicillin? Hoping to tech this out in the 30 turns of the first WC vote?

Once the World Leader vote has been triggered, it will go off 10 after the next regular vote. In my test game with Austria I triggered the vote 2 turns before a regular vote and it says the next World Leader vote is in 12 turns.

I was testing with Austria to quickly answer the question about how many votes are removed when a CS is married/bought/captured. The answer is the required number of votes drops by 1.

Here are screenshots of the vote count on the turn I triggered the votes before and after marrying Jerusalem (the CS behind the diplo screen).

Step 1 Kill everyone but 2 people and enter atomic era OR enter information era
Step 2 Ally CSs and get at least 2 bonus vote (forbidden palace or world religion)
Step 3 Make sure a WC vote happens right after you complete step 1 because the world leader vote will happen 10 turns after the first vote where step 1 is validated.

Everytime the WC changes era you will delay the next vote by 2 turns (or 1 ?).

So, let me be clear, win in atomic era is possible if only Max 3 civ are alive?

And how many SC have to be alive? Because I belieev they provided move voites alive then reduction when they dead.

3 or 2 civs alive for a win in atomic era yes (if you are the only one in atomic era). World leader vote only happens if the WC reaches atomic era. For that to happen either half the civs are in atomic era (rounded down) or one civ is in the next era (information).

Alrighty the Idea of competitive Civ5 Games made may say OMG I gotta try it.... But Really???

I have GK and BNW but you have to create a game on every tiny DLC no one has ever used... Inorder to play this I would have to spend another 18 dollars on DLC's???

How about sticking to the primary content like BNW! I guess I wont be playing this GotM

Welcome to the GOTM!

I can understand the frustration to an extent, but these are quite commonly used and desired DLC, and on top of that, Steam puts them on sale for 75-90% off on a somewhat regular occurrence.

That said, since they are not on sale right now, if you're interested in checking out the Civ V GOTM games, feel free to play one of the previous ones that don't have special DLC requirements! I've just started getting back into playing Civ V again myself, but these games are always a lot of fun to me, even after the fact.

Welcome to GoTM. :wavey:

We are on the 91st TSG and have played through the primary content several times now. The community asked that we use dlc as most of them have purchased it and wished to use it. My apologies if you have not yet purchased them.

As Thrallia has said, there are plenty of games you can play that do not require dlc. The first G&K game started at TSG40 and the first BNW game began with TSG66. All games after TSG66 are in BNW and some of them require dlc, but not many. The game announcement threads will tell you if dlc is required.

Hope you enjoy the games.

Welcome to CivFanatics and GOTM. :wavey:

Best of luck in your games here. Glad you decided to join us.

Not sure if this was for me, but if so thanks! (Posted elsewhere to CF a few times, not in GOTM that I can remember.)

Been doing almost all of the GOTMs for ~~9months now. Very much appreciate the efforts put into them and reading all the replies. Thanks!
