one thing i have a problem on OCC is the fact that i cant go on the offensive when AI declares war on me. first, i dont have much units because im building wonders all the time. that means i gotta stay inside my city, meaning the AI has a field day pillaging all my precious tile improvements. do you actually have enough units to leave the city and take down the invaders before they reach the city?

Earlier in the game, the AI doesn't actually send stacks of units unless he is Monty or Alex. If you manage to bribe someone else to declare war on the offender, the odd pair of knight and catapult or two can be handled easily. Later on in that game, I did face solid stacks, but I tried to kill them within 2 turns so they couldn't pillage that much. It was at a hefty price, of course. Even my warlord rifleman died. Subsequently, I built up a strong and modern defensive force.

Bribing another AI might be your only hope sometimes.
