there have been a handful of threads on star wars vs lotr, best sci-fi series, books and next one to be a movie. well the answer is... c.s. lewis's narnia series. andrew adamson the director of shrek will begin work on the lion, the witch and the wardrobe in new zealand-with an option for 4 more movies.

i've never read them--can it be a good series?

Well, it made a great TV series in the 1980s - I might not go and watch the movie, for fear of being disappointed after that.

Still, they do have the potential, if it's done properly.

 Andrew Adamson? I hated Shrek.

I'm a big Chronicles fan so I hope they make it good. Will it be released in the US?

Shrek was not a story. It was cool technology mixed with famous actors mixed with pop culture inside jokes. That does not make a movie!

I can just imagine what Narnia's going to look like after Adamson's done with it...

What about Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever?
Very similar in a lot of ways to LoTR's..... Maybe it is a bit TOO similar.

Yup, those kicked major ass seeing the stories come to life, but unfortunately they were low budget.

The books make for excellent movies as long as they are done right. They also make for excellent reading, so if you want go grab a copy of the series and read away. The only thing I think the director will try to avoid is the extremely blatant references to Christianity and Christ - although Lewis based his books around that, it may prove to be an obstacle that can make or break the movie. We'll see.

I'm available to direct if necessary.

We have methodss for making them act... My version would hearken to the BBC TV production, as well as strong influences from Leni Riefenstahl, Hunter S. Thompson and 'North'...

Maybe you should combine that with an Ethel Merman style of production with just a hint of Monty Python, Now THAT would be pretty damm funny.

Nah. Forget previous interpretations of the Narnia books: a new director should develop his own vision, guided only by the original work of the author.

With "Bram Stoker's Dracula," Francis Ford Coppola tried to throw away the endless artistic baggage of 60 years' Dracula movies. He had the right idea. Successive filmmakers shouldn't play Chinese whispers with a story until it's changed on every level.

This wouldn't be an issue, of course, in filming "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant." But perhaps some editorial license should be exercised, to minimize the unsubtle pastiche of LOTR in the books: otherwise, critics would crucify the picture.

The problem with doing something else is that LotR is the top of the mountain. All other source works are derivative in nature, or radically different, like Harry Potter. It took over 20 years to get from Star wars to LotR. It may take just as long for something of similar scope to come up again.

BesidesBabylon 5 rules.

Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Stracinskyi (have I spelt that right?) admitted to some LOTR influence. I mean, compare the names Khazad-dum (Moria) and Z'Ha'Dum (the Shadow homeworld)! Not to mention the Rangers. He also borrowed significantly from 1984. Limited sampling is a formula that works - perhaps that qualifies my previous entry about pastiche of LOTR.

Babylon 5 was a work of pure genius and obviously influenced by just about everything from the bible to Star Trek. I wish someone would offer Straczinsky a real budget to write and direct a major ass scifi project on a larger scale than Babylon 5. Maybe continue the B5 universe with new characters and show what happened to the shadows and vorlons. A B5 trilogy would send me into a seizure of orgasms. Jeremiah is a good show but it lacks a solid storyline and backdrop. All they do is cryptic talk about god and blow up stuff in the woods. The whole Daniels scenario is so cheesy. Borrows too heavily from 1984 and cheap Nazi metaphors. I'm sick of hobbits and harry potter. How about some adult themes for a change?

Adult themes...sounds like a film I am working on...A dark tale of vengeance and amorality set in the murky industrial north of England. A successful London youthful hard man - gangster, murderer, teenybopper, strong arm - returns to his old stomping grounds to investigate the suspicious death of his big brother.

Discovering a wide reaching conspiracy of corruption, dirty deals and nasty Disney videos, he singlehandedly and singlemindedly tears into the local crime syndicate with brutal precision and a cold, terrible, sadistic enjoyment, hunting the killer, and then dispatching him whilst singing a song about candy.

Out in all bad cinemas on March 18 - Get Aaron Carter.
