I am going start and mod an NES for the first time in almost a year. However I find myself torn between 3 possible NESes to run. I would like all of your opinions on the matter.

NES #1: Red Alert NES 2

Starts in 1960, 7 years after the end of Red Alert NES; which left on a cliff in the middle of world war 2 between USSR and Europe. I have a 13 page backstory explaining the rest of the war, and histories for every country since then (I could easily summarize it, and make little nation descriptions in stats instead). I have a ruleset and have about 40% of stats done. However I'm thinking adapting EQ's newest ruleset to this NES which will take time to redo rules. The current ruleset is based on my first red alert, though a little different. If you want I can post the ruleset etc.

NES #2: Fantasy/RPG NES
I'm thinking of making a fantasy/rpg NES. The idea is you are either a mercenary, a bureaucrat, or a military officer. You begin by using your limited forces and money to try and gain prestige/power. Its not a direct RPG, you control a small force which allows you to complete orders, etc. There are 3 nations each striving for dominance and you need to aid, or hinder them, in your own quest for loyalty, or power. I'm not sure if I should make it a fantasy NES, I could easily keep it more realistic. As is I have different races with magic, but i can easily make them all humans with normal weapons, etc.

I'm still working out a ruleset, but I have an idea of how to do it.

NES #3: Alternate World Fresh Start
Great thanks to daftpanzer for the map. The map is based off of a c3c game I was playing. I'm planning on creating a fresh start on it, perhaps using daft's ruleset or maybe other viable rulesets. I'm not sure, but being a fresh start and having the map I simply need some rules and I can start this baby up.

I like both of the first two, but if I have to choose, I'd rather the RPG, since Red Alert would be a sequel and I'd like something new.

I voted for the second one, a fresh idea.

I voted 3 but I like both 1 and 3

Red alert!

I voted for the third one!

BY A MILE. Sounds fascinating and finally something a bit different from all the rest.

RPG Neses never ever last. The Fresh start map looks interesting, and we have barely any freshstarts.

Pessimist :p

Change is good

We have had many many freshstarts fail due to lack of interest while i have ben nesing... admittedly by newbs, but they seem hard to successfully run.

Mines always there if you want that :p

A RPG NES would be something nice n fresh..

But it wouldn't last! And there are some running fresh starts, some of the greatest NESes of all time (RTOR ITNES stJNES5) were all fresh starts. So nyah!

agreed definently need a new fresh start

Well those wanting a fresh start, whats wrong with mine?

Exactly. There are fresh starts running. Maybe not enough to placate you, but they are there.

I'd much rather something far more fresh than a fresh start. The fact that there have been no "great" RPG NESes says something to me too.

It says there haven't been enough RPG NESes yet.

RPGs just aren't a NES friendly concept, really. And, after a certain amount of turns, an NES isnt really a fresh start anymore. I wouldn't call mine one, it's more of an Classical Age NES (or if there is a BT, Roman Empire times). And, cant think of many, Amon's, mine, and sloz's are the only ones coming to mind.

Well then RPGs just haven't been done right yet. That can be solved ;)

So you've named 3 fresh starts. That's 3 more than there are RPG NESes. Why do we need another rather than a new idea?

MjM... im... 4 updates in? You could easily start a nation without any worry!

I havent voted because all are interesting to me.

#1, My favourite computer game right now is Hearts of Iron2: Doomsday, where im trying to engineer some alternate ww2 setup.

#2, Today i was having some ideas of my own for something like this! Judging by the map, it seems like you have quite a detailed world for this.

#3, I helped with the maps and the world seems interesting, whether its a fresh start or based on a situation from the civ3 game.
