i seen a lot of interviews of players etc.... in the Superbowl build up, about the regular season game between the Giants and Dolphins to take place in London next season. They all seemed to respond to it very positively but what i really want to know is do regular Americans feel it is a good idea that there teams are going to play more games overseas more frequently in the future.

Personally i think it is a great idea that the NFL is seeking to expand the NFL's market and i'm very excited about the prospect of going to an NFL game in London.

It's a stupid idea, it means both teams have to fly overseas to play in a foreign city. It's an okay pre-season game site, but it's absolutely ******** for NFL regular season games.

I'd be mad if it was my team. All that travel would put them at a disadvantage for preparing for the next week.

I'm in favor of playing games in Canada or Mexico though

Its a stupid idea only if its your team. I'm surprised that AlCosta is mad that Eli Manning will get an extra loss or at least be tired out on coming back. :p

Eli Manning sucks anyways. The only reason the G-men beat us at all is because of Tiki Barber, and he golfs now.

i personally like the idea of the NFL in europe.

of course, it'd depend primarily upon how they're rec'd overseas. i mean, if it's rec'd as some sort of yankee dog-n-pony show then it's all a waste imo. however, if there are actually Londoners who like the game or actually want to genuinely learn or experience the NFL then it's fantastic imo.

the travel logistics excuses are nonsense. those dudes get paid plenty so i harbor zero sympathy for them. plus, it's only 5 hours difference.

what would be really cool would be if my team was palying in London and i had a chance to see them there. now that would be sweet!

If you fly 1st class and keep your routine largely to that of your home time-zone, then it really isn't much of a hassle. And I can't imagine that it's much more of a disruption than flying NY to LA or similar.

Yeah, I like the idea, and will probably try to go. I was a Dolphins fan when I followed the NFL in the early '80s (the Marino, Clayton, Duper years) so it is quite likely to make more interested in the sport again, at least for a season or two.

I watch a little American Football over the season, and try to watch the super bowl. But I do think this will be received as "yankee dog-n-pony show", basically a one off event where some interest was stirred. I am sure if it became a regular event attendences would drop away after the initial interest has passed.

I personally have no interest to go and watch the game.

This is a bad idea. The English in general aren't particularly big fans of American sports, so what's the point? We English play sports like football, rugby and cricket, and I don't think American Football will ever join them.

There are plenty of people over here who follow the NFL regularly and certainly enough to fill Wembley. They supposedly had enough ticket enquirys to fill the stadium already and they havent even gone on public sale yet!

I for one will definitely going to the match, although financing a trip to london could be a problem because its my first year at college next year.;)

I dunno, "National" never really meant anything to the NBA or NHL.

Oh come on, you know "National" means ALMOST ALL American teams. The NBA has 1 foreign team. Are you seriously trying to tell me having 1 Canadian team makes the NBA an international league? ;)

Technically, it does. ;) But i'm not going to argue semantics.

Besides, Canada is almost the 51st state anyways...:mischief: (kidding!)

I wouldn't mind seeing an overseas game. I agree with the point about having less time to prepare for the following game, but if they have a bye week the next week after the overseas game, that would work out well, I think.

Who are we to deny the great and mighty sport of gridiron football to those that wish to see it at least once? ;)

There are plenty of English people wanting to go, even if it is just the Gnats and Phins. That Stadium will be packed, and most will be very much into the game.

I know that this thread was aimed at Americans (so I didn't vote), but I am a Brit who went to a couple of the Off-season matches over here a while back and was glad to have the chance to do that.

The travel as pointed out isn't necessarily going to be such a big deal as long as the teams get enough rest between games. I'll be trying to get to this one! Not a fan of either team, Manning (Eli) was great the previous season but had a tough time this year.

The NFL want to raise the profile of the game world-wide and I think that is starting to happen. During the regular season we get two games a week, one of which is on non-subscription channel (the Monday night game). Started watching back in 1982 when it was shown as a highlight show.

I understand peoples concerns, but I don't think anyone need worry about European competition as our (European) athletes seem to concentrate on soccer, rugby and cricket.

True, but the NHL has about 25% Canadian teams.
