I plan on getting one but I'm going to wait until the price comes down a bit and they got some cool colors. I can't wait until someone comes up with a web browsing add on or cell phone add on then you can use it for all your communication needs in addition to the games, of course. :goodjob:

Also would really like to see civ ported to this. ;)

Moderator Action: Moved to Other Games.

Can anyone who'd gotten one give us a personal review? :)

Well I picked up my preordered one today from Electronics Boutique along with Super Mario 64 DS and a free DS shirt they threw in (got the last shirt they had and I was there 8 minutes after they opened  ) . Haven't decided whether to eBay this one and get mine a little later or to bust this one open and give it a go. What do you guys think?

My brother is very excited

eBay it! Make that buck. Or be goofy like the HL2 guy and be famous. :)

who's the HL2 guy, and what did he do to become famous?

My friend picked his up today. I'll probably "borrow" it from him tomorrow, and give my impressions on the system then. But he seems to like the system a lot.

Pssh... I'm saving for the PSP, thank you. :D

My DS still hasn't arrived yet, although I have played quite a bit of my friend's. Unsuprisingly, my impressions on the system is extremely positive.

First off, the system is light. I mean, really light. Supporting the system with one hand while using the stylus with the other was a lot easier than I suspected.

The big DS launch title is Super Mario 64 DS. The original released almost ten years ago was absolutely revolutionary. The game introduced using an analogue control stick for the first time. The major problem with the DS having the remake as its big launch title is that there is no analogue control stick, to keep the clamshell design of the DS.

The game attempted to recreate the analogue feel in several ways. The d-pad, with holding down a button to run, just isn't so great. What you use is the thumb strap on the touch screen as a virtual analogue stick. It's annoying how as I move my thumb I keep hitting the side of the screen, having to lift my finger and recenter it, often delaying me some time, it works pretty well.

Control issues aside, Super Mario 64 DS is absolutely amazing. I mean, this is Super Mario 64 for crying out loud. I did play a bit of multiplayer, and it was very fun. The stylus-oriented minigames are also quite entertaining.

Pictochat I tried a bit, it will be more fun when more of my friends get a DS. This system has a lot of potential in the classroom, particularly the boring ones. :p

Unfortunately, my friend forgot to bring the Metroid Prime Hunters demo to school, so I didn't get a chance to play that yet.

As for the future of the system, most of the launch titles don't look all that great. Feel the Magic XX/XY seems too short, and the other launch titles seem a bit mediocre. But to be honest, Super Mario 64 by itself can last me quite a while, until next year when the big games start getting released, with everything from Mario Kart to Harvest Moon to Final Fantasy III all for the DS. :)

Over the years i have learnt never to buy a console that has just come out. let the dust settle first.

I dont need Nintendo DS, I already have a Pocket PC that can do the same, play games :p.

I will definitely buy a DS if they would make a Super Smash Bros title for it. That would totally rock and the DS is perfect for it. Unlike GBA, it has 4 buttons, A, B, X, Y. The two shoulder buttons. It's only a button or two shy from N64 and GC controller, but a couple of the buttons were the exact same thing anyways. I mean, am I right? Two screens. The bottom one os somewhat zoomed in on you since you're dealing with a smaller screen. The top one is like fixed camera mode from SSBM but with a layout of the entire screen with everybody. No problems there. And just because touch screen's there, you don't have to use it. Maybe the mic. would do something, but other than that it would be perfect.

I don't know which one to get,
DS or PSP?

I just played my friend's DS...against three other people in a wireless Metroid Prime match! It was tough to control without the thumb thing.(A thing you put on your thumb so you can touch the screen with your thumb attached to the DS), but when I got it, it was easy to control. I still lost, though. It was a lot of fun. I had fun getting bombs, and then rolling by people laying them. Missles are very powerful too.

Obviously I'm very pro-DS, but I would suggest waiting until the US release of the PSP before making any decisions.

A big reasoning behind this is the games. The two launches are about identical, but I'll give the PSP the slight edge. The DS's big hitter is Super Mario 64 DS, a remake. The PSP's big hitters are Gran Turismo 4, a port of a PS2 game, as well as Metal Gear Acid. The other DS launch titles have been seen as a bit mediocre, and Feel the Magic XX/XY is too short.

However, the PSP US launch isn't until sometime next year. What it seems like Nintendo is doing is saving all of its heavy hitters (like Wario Ware, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Metroid Prime Hunters) to be released probably within the same month as the PSP is released. If this is the case, the DS will have a severe library advantage.

We're still iffy on a lot of the details for the PSP, like we still don't know the exact battery life, nor do we know the US price. So I would suggest waiting regardless.

They are making a WarioWare type game I think. It's got lots more of those pointless, time-wasting video games. I think I saw it on ign.com or one of those places.
