NO-1: Tree huggers of the world unite

I will play in a few hours.

Do we really want to go for the "gambit" on Colossus - it's late, and we have Ramesses the wonder-whore in the game - while in war ?

Do we really want to go for the "gambit" on Colossus - it's late, and we have Ramesses the wonder-whore in the game - while in war ?

Not a gambit, Ramesses isn't building it now or he'd give us another reason for why he wont trade MC. He likely doesn't 'know' he can build it unless he happens to build a forge in a coastal city.

We have many cities now, Amsterdam hasn't been a military city for about 3 turnsets now. We have copper, the Colossus is maybe worth 2-3 units. I'd like it, but I guess it's up to you.

Sorry, took me so long to play it - i had some stuff piled up after the communication breakdown. Played 11 turns (Felt like more, as usual in war time turnsets...)

The report is more or less chronological, however i forgot to mark the turn numbers in my notes...

Use the GS to Bulb Philo on the inherited turn - i think trade or not, nothing wrong with that.
I don't see how the mentioned Philo <> Machinery trade is possible however. I think Justinian got Philo the same turn we did.
002ip4.jpg

Napoleon looks pretty pissed (despite being just cautious) and has enought on his hands. He's annoyed with some AI's... Still if i were him, i would dogpile on us.
001hy2.jpg

Will try to get Colossus, as Quechua suggested. Rameses of course completed it on my fifth turn...

We had a Re-Election. I Voted for Justy, hoping he would call for a war vs Infidels (Charlie) but of course Rameses clearly won the election.
003tu7.jpg

I can't do a lot in Etruscan. Charlie is coming with 4 Axes a Sword and a Catapult. We have 2 CR2 Swords / Chariot and 2 Workers there.
I was seriously concidering to evacuate the city - A CR swordsman chances vs a axe are bad, so maybe those units can do more harm somewhere else...

Luckily i didn't in the end. As Charlies stack just walked away...
He came back a few turns later, i had however used the time to whip the -whiners there into two Archers. Might be enought to hold after all.

I assault and take Bjorgwin with a dittle-squat and a bit of luck while the main Stack has easy fight at Birka.
004jo4.jpg

I would very much like to dispose of Ragnar Completely. I.e. tack back Khasak - the barb town i had liberated to that unthankfull jerk. So i do not make peace yet.
005zf9.jpg

Apparently popped a Gret General while taking the cities, tho i did not see any message.

Started a few Courthouses. Even our capital has 7.6:gold: maintenance by now.

Charlies stack for etruscan turned away - again.

I rectify my previous mistake by taking Khazak and will stop here.
006al5.jpg

I think we should dierect our troops N, take or burn Tonsberg, then move up to Charlie via Lubeck and Etruscan to Vienna.

There are some troops from Charlie around Utrecht in the North, but i had reinforced the Garrison there somewhat, so it should not make us too much trouble.

Check our cities in the South for sleeping troops please - i had some units fortified there, which are no longer needed there, and should move but i forgot to wake them up towards Tonsberg or northwarts. But i forgot to wake them up before saving.

I have lost a few cats in the south throught the turn (one in each taken city) and a Horse Archer. We have some cats left (and i built new in the North) so i think we should have enought for a few more cities.

Horatio Nelson is in Mastricht. I was thinking settling him in Utrecht maybe - its one of our primary troop producer towns so far.

Overall, while i am not opposed to hitting Charlie a little bit, i think our main aim should be infrastructure now - we have a good deal of land, also a few towns that can support and are allowed to have cottages. When the land we have now (+ maybe the Area around Vienna - we were planning a Gold city there, but Charlie beat us to it) is up and running, we should have no problems keeping up.

Anyone against this deal?

justininandowcharlemagnsg8.jpg

Also, we'll get a great person, most likely a GS, during my turn set, any ideas?

Hmm the deal as it is is cool. It would draw charlies troops to opposite side of his empire, probably giving us a good oportunity to gain some land from him (Does Aachen have a shrine ? :mischief: I looked at it, and seen none, but i might be mistaken.)

I do worry a bit about our treasury tho - i had -25 gpt at 0% slider at some points, when lots troops were outside boarders. But i think it should work out.

I am not sure what the next GS bulb would be. If the Bulb is not cool, i would concider a Academy in one of our newly aquired cottage-cities - we will need it at some point.

Refar did you check the Philo - machinery trade the turn after you bulbed? It takes a turn to be able to trade. I just tried it in the old save, I think we missed out on Machinery.

But it looks like a great turnset otherwise. More cities taken than I hoped and we kept Etruscan :goodjob:

I did of course check. There is even a screenshot of it. It looked in deed possible in the save, but on the next turn all of the sudden everyone had it.

I confirm the deal from the pic in my previous post.
Justinian declares war on the Holy Roman Empire.

We have only 1 rule in this game, forests must grow.
So, some tiles in former Viking lands have to be pillaged.

Finally some good news,
Napoleon declares on Charlemagne too and converts to Judaism.

Gottfried Leibniz has been born in Amsterdam.
He will lightbulb Compass, not really what I'm looking for.

tonsbergcaptaf1.jpg

I've captured the city. If we don't want it, we can liberate it to Ramesses.
This also means the end of the Vikings.

An annoying AP resolution pops up,

apresolutionja1.jpg

I'm not surprised by the outcome.

lubeckburnsp8.jpg

I've burned the city.

Utrecht is undersiege. Good luck.

Sorry Refar, I guess you got a different RNG roll with respect to the Machinery trade, I probably shouldn't have checked it in any case.

I think I'm up, I'll look at the save in a little bit. Nice that Napoleon didn't betray us. Long term, I think we take out Charlie, then Ramesses, then Napoleon for the win.

Ok Charlie will give us 90 gold and 7gpt to end the war. I don't like the looks of the stack outside Utrecht, and he has maces and xbows - we don't. I am very much for ending now and redeclaring when we can do some real damage.

I am in favor of finishing CS, and lightbulbing paper. Collecting some gold and trading for Machinery and whatever else we can get. Of course if things go as they have been Wang will get it one turn before us and trade it to everyone . The tech situation is pretty embarassing.

I would like to move the palace to Haithabu and build the FP in the north. Amsterdam is the quickest, but I suppose we would like to see the national park there someday. So an academy in Haithabu would make sense long term, but I don't think it's our best option now with our slider between 10 and 20% and dead last in tech.

During my turn set I've checked a few times to see if Charlemagne wanted to talk, he was unwilling .
I agree to make peace and focus on infrastructure.

1peacenb9.jpg

Peace finally!

The gold we extort from Charlie and 70 more I begged from Nap gets us CS in 3 turns. I already started building farms to spread irrigation. I also built many over immature cottages for the sake of growth and production. Uppsala in particular I see as our best production city (heroic epic?) and I settle our general there.

I trade for Feudalism with Nap...

2naptradect4.jpg

And our scientist helps us catch up a little...

3paperaf8.jpg

The AIs won't give us anything for our map, so I buy Wang's map and trade it around.

4maptradekl1.jpg

I put a little more research into Machinery that turn to even up the trade. Wang already knew Paper, and Justinian had researched enough of it that he wasn't even willing to trade Aesthetics. Fortunately Ramesses was willing to take Paper for Machinery and some gold (thought I had screenshot sorry).

That turn I also grabbed the remaining barb city and razed it. We may want to resettle it eventually (the seafood was hidden until I captured it fwiw)

5magyarut5.jpg

I noticed our new Jewish cities had no AP anger (but Etruscan still has -5, does anyone understand this ), so I decide to make use of the 10gpt we've been paying for OR. I'd usually spread it just before the whip of a courthouse or market (btw, the coastal wine city needs it very soon before its ch whip).

Not much happened over the next few turns except a lot of AI demands...stop trading with Nap, adopt Caste, join Buddhism...um no. Also we voted Justinian in as the AP leader. When do we become eligible, we are still not a full member?

6engineeringwl7.jpg

I set research to Education next, intending to head straight to Liberalism and take Nationalism. Hey it could happen... :please: We have a 1 in 3 chance of getting another scientist in Amsterdam soon, that could make the difference. Etruscan is being set up as a secondary gp farm.

You might notice I was building the Palace in Haithabu in a screenshot above. It is now complete, and I think the next player should switch to Bureaucracy. I am working floodplain farms but some of those tiles have prebuilt cottages. I have the FP set to complete in 12 turns in Rotterdam. Our maintenance isn't so bad up north now, but we plan to take Charlie's territory.

I focused all our new espionage on Ramesses, and I built and sent spies to steal Aesthetics next turnset. I'd consider even attacking him as our next target for a quick raid, we have the Pyramids and AP right on our border.

I do not fully understand the mechanic behind "The World Conciders you a Villian"-. I think it might only affect cities that already had the AP religion at the time we defied ?!

As fo us not beeing eligible for the vote...
We defied. to become a full member again, we need to vote with the mayority on a resolution (Usually "Yes" on a resolution that passes, dont know if it works reversed).
I think Tartan Voted "No" on stop war vs Justinian...

Edit.: Another note - just struck me now.... I have a SDK component that will allow to pillage own roads (no other changes)... I only use it for my personal offline games, so i did not think of it sooner... But might be of use making those newly conquered lands "conform".

The weird thing is I remember looking in the cities earlier and seeing -10 in Etruscan. So I really don't get it.

I would be in favor of using your mod temporarily to pillage some roads. But I know there is at least one road that is necessary to connect Rotterdam to the south.

I can not play before tomorrow. If untill then NoChildren did not step up, i will take it :scan:

We'll get a gp next set, if it's a merchant that's probably at least as good as a scientist for getting to liberalism, we can cash bomb Thebes (ToA) and use it for deficit research.

If it's a prophet (15-20%) I would like to immediately go into a GA, while we build up military for our next target and get a little more commerce for liberalism. In fact, it may be smart to delay switching to beuro for a few more turns until we see if it's a prophet. The other option is saving the prophet for a buddhist shrine, it is nearly as widespread as Hindu, but my vote is for the GA.

If we continue spreading Judaism to all our cities we should be able to win the next AP election unless there's some mechanic I don't know about. If we take it from Ramesses this is far less likely. We need to decide whether to attack Charlie or a short war against Ramesses next, I think there are merits for both.

I played 12 or 13 turns till Education.

Also pillaged all the Illegal Roads i could find.
The DLL is attached, but technically you do not need to use it - the changes do not affect savegames.

Charlie is at war with Naps. From his troop movements, i think he declared on my set, but i did not see the message.
27667900sy3.jpg

Napps wants Machinery. I do not like the deal, but we can use the money and he's about the last one without it... He isnt even willing to give us all his money for it ... Well i just asked nicely and got the rest :)
59196476yk9.jpg

The stupid jerk vassalized himself to Charlie after loosing just one city. WTH !?! They do not even have a common boarder now, let alone Charlies troops actually treatening Naps land.
70353962xx9.jpg

Anyway - i think for our military situation it is about the worst thing that could happen :(

75690293hn4.jpg

I Revolted to Buerocracy (looking back i think i shouldnt have too)
The Great Person in Amsterdam was a GS. Bulbed 2/3 Education, researched the rest in 4 turns.

WK got it 2 turns earlier than us. :wallbash: Without the Buero-Revolt we would be even.
I sent a Spy towards Seoul - maybe if we can incite a revolt there, we can slow down WK just one turn on Lib

Another Election came up - we are still not on the Roster. And no one gives us a resolution to vote upon, to regain full membership [pissed]
46423819mp6.jpg

2 Spies are in Pi-Rameses (cheapest city) on 50% statinary bonus, ready to steal a tech or two from Rameses. Unfortunately, nothing immediately usefull... Maybe Aestetics, and next turn Literature (supposing the spies do not suck) for National/Heroic Epics ?
We have about 900 :espionage: on Rammesses.

Pre-turn-turn
Some mm, Liberalism in 4 turns.

Zheng He (GM) has been born in Seoul, Wang Kon has researched Economics.

I've chosen Printing Press. No one has it.
Hmm, Justinian isn't willing to trade Guilds for Liberalism. Probably he was busy researching it.

Well, I'm glad I did some mm to get Liberalism 1 turn earlier, Justinian has it too.
Wang Kon isn't willing to trade Guilds, maybe Banking.

We've researched Guilds.
We can't steal Nationalism from Ramesses at the moment, not enough EPs.
Wang Kon is willing to trade the tech.

This deal is possible, he won't trade Economics (monopoly).
I think it's a good deal, but Kon is the tech leader.
