No Interface???

My game runs with the exception of the history of the world video that plays right after you start a new game. That just shows up black, but has audio.. but my main concern is that I have absolutely no interface within the game itself. No menu, no way to save, or quit, or do anything. I can move my units, but I can't do anything with them, as there are no menus. Anybody else having this problem? It's very frustrating, I just want to play

I have a laptop with a Radeon 9600/9700 series card.

Nobody has any idea on how to fix this?

The game is unplayable without any windows or interface.
