Here's an idea to help end perpetual game re-starts) or if you just want to play out the history to the end):

If you lose, or want to retire, but keep playing in the game world, you get to take over for the mid-placed civ and finish the game.

You mean that you should be able to switch at random between Civs. This is a bad idea, we all make fun of the AI for being unbearably dumb but adding this would effectively make the games AI idiotic, Stupid, and makes down right DUMB AI.

The point of a strategy game is to Win; but quite often one must Lose as well.

If you really want to do something like this, load the game in multiplayer, play until you come to the civ you want to control, and save the game. Then reopen it in single player mode, and you are now a different civ.

It should. I've converted MP to SP many times. As long as you have only 8 civs, there shouldn't be a problem. The only difference is that MP locks the AI so humans can play (you should be able to change the Player from AI to human in the load screen of hotseat).

I was suggesting the idea for single player. It's more for a "sandbox mode" without a trainer, so you can play out the final history of the game world, even if you get eliminated or just hate your game status. Would be cool for the 'realistic' mods where the playing field doesn't start of equalized.

Not so keen on this idea but as with most ideas i can see it being of intrst to sum and its just one of those things that could easily be just another option.

It could make for an extra challenge. If you get bored with your civ, try to have the lowest placed civ win. Theres is also an exploit factor, so I would make Civ swapping ineligible for the HOF in any game where they switch.

I like the idea. I used to do it all the time in civII: the game wasn't working out, so I'd switch to cheat mode, and change the human player to another civ. Or sometimes just put no human player and watch how suddenly the world stops delcaring war on my former civ. bring back cheating!

Yeah, I miss the cheat menu, too. Sometimes it was a lot of fun to just give myself a huge amount of money and a killer army.

I think if you want a bad civ, automate your workers and build five cities, and voilà! you ahve a last ranked civ!
