Am I the only one that encounters when I propose a tech or something else to trade for, then ask for a gpt amount, then the lump sum gold option disappears? Happens vice versa and under many other circumstances.
I've noticed this, too.
I think this is intentionally, because sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. It feels to me like maybe there are some points in the game where the AI will not give you gold for a tech. Maybe the AI just doesn't like you enough or perhaps there's a tech you need to discover that enables this?
There definately is a way because I distincly remember selling technology for gold at some points in the game. Just didn't really notice when it got enabled.
I'm not certain, but I think you're only allowed to trade one-off things like techs for a lump sum of gold. It's to stop you just declaring war and getting techs for nothing.
Yeah, I think trades can either be one-time, like techs, cities, and lump sums, or they can be per turn, like resources, borders, or gpt. Peace treaties are an exception, but I think that's what's going on.
