Just a little announcement/notice I think is nessacary...

Mr. President:
Permision to kick boris7.
Boris: before making outlandish statements, please read the games progress.

I know newbies can -seem- irratating sometimes (not just here, but I've seen it in other forums, too), but as a citizen (and a moderator in the forums ;))... but we shouldn't adopt a "holier than thou" attitude towards newbies. We're the vets/elites/great leaders of the demogame. The novelty has worn off for us, and we know what we're doing. That doesn't mean we should kick a newbie out just because everything's new to them. Everything was new for once. The constitution is complex as it is, and there's a steep learning curve. but we shouldn't be discouraging people from joining if we expect them to "know all the rules before joining". Even some of our vets don't follow the rules at times... ;)

Just look at Danke's sig: Demo*game*. It's a game. Fun and all that. Be nice.

Funny you should pick a Stuck quote, CT.

That was just an example... ;)

OK, newbie-kicking shouldn't be allowed.... unless its an organized sport with proper safety gear, like Donsig-PIing (j/k)

BUt in the case of Boris7, Boris3, and Leninist, you have to admit that it makes sense to want to kick someone for twice trying to overthrow the government (not in-game or by impeaching people, but by setting it up so that in war-time it becomes the Despotism Game and the Prez gets to make all the decisions.) I love newbies, newbies are my best friends, I was a newbie about 5 months ago, but its still not an excuse for trying to pull stuff like that.

--End rant--

I was once a Newbie back in Demogame 1. To me Newbies are the future of the demogame. Mow I have beome a Veteran Player to the Demogame :). I say no to Newbie Bashing

Well, guys, what do you think? Have I graduated from "newbie" status??

**crosses fingers** oh please, let it be SO!

Regardless, I feel that I have been treated fairly by everybody from day one. It's a pleasure trading ideas with the lot of you.

btw:
as long as no mod sais this, it is stucks free speach right he used.
how dare we demand him being quiete?
of course it may have been rude and unethic, but still it is his right to state what he wants, same as boris.

no moderator kicked boris, so what we/you should have done was say boris to just ignore the penguin ;-)

i see no problem here.

@DZ: You'd have my vote for Veteran.
@Plexus: Ditto.
@Dis: We're not talking about the Boris7&3 case specificly, its just an example. I think CT is just putting out a general plea for us to not harsh on the newbie population at large.

yes. but i also wanted to put up that even citizens harshing newbies have a right of free speach. we can help the newbies be civil courage and arguing with the harsh people. this will also give the newbies the feeling that they ARE recognized and people are there which HELP them!
What we must do is we must go onto the side of the newbies and help them arguing with the experts.

How do you define a "newbie" and what makes a person a veteran?

Does this term only apply to Demogame participants? Is a person a newbie until he or she holds an elected or appointed position in the game? What about basing a person's status on post-count? Spammers of the world rejoice! What about real-time participation? After three months, you're a veteran. Congrats!

Maybe we can create a test so that once you pass, you're no longer a newbie? Or should we add a requirement to the citizen registry that makes all citizens swear under oath that they read and comprehend the rules of the game? I think I'd better find my print out and re-read them just in case...

All the same, I'm still wondering one thing.... What about veteran-bashing? Is that still legal?

:)

 Figures, only in the demogame.. "How do we define a newbie".. :) Maybe someone who's been here for less than a month... And yes, it's a general plea.

i think anyione from the previuos demogame is probably considered an old foogie so no old foogie bashing either but newbie bashing does sound like a good game maybe we could string them up and hit them with sticks until sweets come out........ now where have i seen that before

i like the idea of a test... maybe a "citizenship on probation" from the beginning, and to become a full qualified citizen you must have had at least 10 posts in the forums and pass a simple test of knowledge about our basic rules :-)
only full quaified citizens would be allowed to vote :-P

Dis... somehow I think he was sarcastic.... he all but said "and why don't we make them wear a yellow star?"

Excuse me if I'm mistaken.

Anyway, I PERSONALLY consider someone no longer a newbie if:

a) They have been elected or appointed to a position
b) I can recognize their name and understand how they think and act
c) They participate in almost all major discussions and don't just say "i agree" or blurt out random comments
d) They do something that gets them recognized (IE: FortyJ and the map office)

But thats just me...
