So I fired up a new game with every intention of seeing it through to the end. Well Caesar and Napoleon got into it early and I (America) used that opportunity to try to get ahead in culture and science. Caesar took Paris and Napoleon was forced to retire to his summer city up by me. He made a half-hearted attempt to him off but had to go through a choke point and wasn't able to do so.

Caesar by then had the point lead by double and twice as many Wonders as everyone. He went for my foothold city on his section of the continent and it was all I could do to keep him off my lawn. He got it down to 2 hp but he never took it. (BTW Artillery w/ supporting infantry can hold off just about anything, seems a bit OP) In addition, I'm fending off small skimishers of the 8! CS allied with him. There is NO coal anywhere near me but I do have oil. The final straws were NO alum any where near me I would have to try to take a CS right next to Caesar. And then Monty back-doors me taking a foothold city I had on his continent, while Cathy a good "friend" of mine paints her toenails.

The writing is on the wall and its in Roman. Is there really not a resign/retire/quit/endgame that tells me good effort ol' boy, we'll name a cockroach after you, better luck next time. This has always been a staple of Sid Meier's games.

And speaking of staples, whatever happened to tricking out your throne room? Both of those weren't necessary to game play but they were part of the success of the previous games. It's like taking Sgt. Johnson out of Halo 3.

No, there is no retire button, I'm afraid.

Kind of neat feature. I wouldn't really want it back because then it would lead to some special DLC palace upgrades which wouldn't have a purpose.

yeah the upgrades to palace would be put as dlc lol

I saw someone post on the Civ5 forums that they made a Mod that has the Resign button implemented.

I just wish the CEO for 2K Games would push that resign button. ;)

In all seriousness, there should be resign button in the game. It's strange that they
don't have one.

There's a mod that adds one back in.

As far as DLC palace upgrades - BRING IT ON. The more revenue this game is bringing in over time, the longer/better it will be supported. They can't sell DLC if people stop playing the base game.

I would personally never buy cosmetic palace upgrades, but if they can support more of the free patching they've been doing that way, I'd gladly have that in the game.

I don't ever want them doing DLC that might ruin the core experience, or selling pieces of gameplay (DLC: Two new wonders! Ugh, no thanks.) other than civs/maps/scenarios, but something purely cosmetic? I don't see a problem, it simply won't affect me.
