No solution: game crashes at end of turn!

Frustrated greetings!

I can´t finish a game. I haven´t been able to finish one single game since I bought Civ V. At the begining, before the latest patch, game froze at midgame. Now, at the final stages, the game simply stops responding, both at Dx11 and Dx9.

Germany, huge map, marathon, high graphic settings, year 2009, turn 1235, I´m attaching both the saved game and the dxdiag.

All drivers updated, I haven´t had any problem with latest games like Rage, Fallout (all versions), X3 TC ...

Intel Q9550, 8 Gb RAM, Gigabyte HD5870, SSD hard disk ... not a bad rig I think.

I have reported the problem at 2K forums, no answer yet after more than a week, I´ve also tried finishing the turn with F10 strategic view, tried erasing cache folder and using local files option under Steam to reload cache, tried also reloading several previous turns only to get to the same year and crash again.

I need some help, folks, at least to confirm that this saved game also crashes in other machines.

Thank You!

Hey Lssar,

First that I would do is go in and change your Autosave options. It can be set to autosave every 10 turns, 2 turns, 1 turn and when that time comes around autosaving while trying to perform AI moves is simply too much for CIV (not your machine). I'd set it up to every 100 turns or turn it off and see if you can get through the end of the game. I'd turn it off if you can and just manually save as it doesn't seem to be a multiplayer game.

Tried your advice, with no joy: game keeps on crashing when the turn ends. Have you (or anyone) tried the saved game I´m attaching? If it also crashes in your rig, well it would at least declare my PC "inocent" ...

I´m willing to try any other idea, just let it flow ...

Thanks a lot, Thriven!

1st of all, thanks sparkyal for your advice: installed all three (1st one didn´t install, I had already a newer version, the 2nd and 3rd only let me reapir ´cause they were already installed).

I guess i´ll go back to my copy of Civ IV BTS, this is so frustrating ...

P. S. and 2K support hasn´t answered yet, will they???

2k support is indeed strange. One time the answered the sa,e day the ticket was opened...another time a week, another time nearly two weeks.

This has never really worked for me, but here is another idea, delete the cache file and then verify the integrity of the cache. It should download the files and stuff.

Then, if that does snot work, delete the cache folder again and just play the game.

If that does not work, the I would fully uninstall the game then reinstall it again (including steam).

Are these the crash dumps from the program "who crashed"?

Oh, I just thought of something else you can try that is less intrusive....isn't there an option for not show in enemy moves? That way the turn would just end and Yu would not see anything and just begin the next turn. And maybe turn quick combat on? Just a couple of ideas.

Thanks sparkyal! Tried also that already, but the cache had no efect on my rig. And no option not to show enemy moves, that´s from Civ IV i´m afraid. Anyway, F10 strategic view also failed.

A guy from 2K forums loaded my saved game on his PC and it also crashed, so it is not my machine that has problems ...

There is only one solution, and it can only come from one source: 2K support ...

... if ever ...

Adios!

Really?.I was going to take a look at your saved game too and see if it crashes. That means that something is being written incorrectly from the game engine to the saved game. Wow, not sure where to start with that! Good luck 2k games!!!!! Hahahahaha

Please keep us updated on what is happening

After "smooth" sailing for about a month on "pre-last-patch" game, this game I am on now is acting up again.

When I brought my laptop out of sleep, the game automatically crashed, and this time when checking files it has found a handfull of files to re-download. This has not happened for about 2 months. I play online working on the achievements and my network has been dropping in and out regularly for a couple of days. I am curious if files can get that corrupted when playing online?

The only other thing I can think of is that I have done a lot of reloading of the game. I am wondering if "artifacts" are left in memmory that can be corrupting the game? Why would these also corrupt the local Cache?

I think that I am on emperor, and am curious if the AI and it's "hoards" are also effecting this? I have not explored any and the AI is still hidden, but it takes about 3 minutes for the AI to take it's turn. This started around turn 300 in an epic game since the AI's made it to the Modern Era. There have also been a few AI wars. One war must have cleaned out a bunch of units, because the turn time did not take as long, but that lasted for only about 5 turns and things slowed down again. My theory is that it is the processor and not the video that is the bottle neck.

I have all my graphics on high (dictated by system allowances), except the leaderhead screen. The refresh rate is slow, but liveable and seems to me that even watching in between combat does not take as long as the processing power to compute hundreds of cities and units and all of the resources and terrain involved. Yes I play on huge maps and 800+ turns without crashing on a HP laptop running XP 32bit, T5500 1.66 Ghz Intel Core2, 2 gig Ram, Direct X9, Nvidia GeForce Go7600. Yes I have about 4 minutes of free time between turns, but if spending $1500 on a new system only gains me 2 minutes of time, I will just play on the lower levels, until 2K can get the coding bugs fixed.

The reason it has to be cities and units and resources, is because when I am the only one left, the time spent on the AI turn is about 10 seconds and the processing of all my cities and units takes about 3 minutes. Every time a city is added, it adds more time to the process.

Yes, my graphics are slower than an above spec computer, but it should not have to re-process all my city info everytime I take a turn should it?

Edit: Ok, After re-downloading about a dozen files through the varify local cache, The game that took 4 minutes between turns now only takes 1 minute. However it now keeps crashing my video driver.
