It would be fun to have some small gold prizes for getting number one in happiest, maybe "most peaceful", and scientific advances... instead of scientific leaders.

it would un balance the game in favor of the players already doing good. If you are doing good enough to pull that off you dont need a gold bonus

It would be better than the unbalance caused by scientific leaders.
And what about "most peaceful" are you sure that would cause imbalance? Samer with most happy... most happy can be far from most powerful.

Yeah, not to say Nobel Prizes are the right answer, but obviously you could reward behaviors that aren't rewarded in Civ 3.

Since when is there a reward for peace, anyway? There is in real life, and I'm not talking about gold either. But hey, that's more of a social science - history thing.

Aren't most of the Nobel Prize subjects rewarded by civ through a great leader system?

One is for a military victory, (which of course, there is no Nobel War prize), and one is for scientific leader.

The first Nobel prize was the Nobel peace prize, allthough later came physics, economics etc....

And actually, I was thinking in the range of 20 - 100 gold... nothing game breaking, just a little reward.

How about those little beaker specialist guys working hard in their labs. Maybe after so many years being an unheard of beaker guy they discover something of great importance and win the nobel prize and by way of their fame gain sponsorship deals/global research grants and from then on also act as if they were a tax specialist as well as a beaker.

Interesting, I never heard anyone suggest "veteran" status for specialists.

First of all nobel prizes are offered every year. How would it occur in civ? Every 20 turns say? When would the prize be introduced? Explosives aren't in civ 3 so how about mass production? How about a minor great wonder giving a small amount of culture and rewarding you with some kudos from other civs? Don't know.

The scientific nobel prizes are awarded to innovations that have benefit to mankind. This ultimatly means that the most advanced civ would get the scientific awards, as recognised by the great scientific leaders.

Peace prize and literature prize are different matters.

Possibly a peace prize could only be introduced if diplomacy was made much more in depth, e.g. the ability to broker peace between two warring states.

Literature prize could just be a reflection of the most culturally advanced civ. No need for it.

No need for it? Is there a need for much at all inthe game?
It would just be a fun little reward.

Fair enough it would be fun to have great writers and the like associated with your civ. I suppose I keep looking at the big picture. :)
