NoMovies = 1 no longer works!

When I first got the game it was crashing on the startup screen with my Radeon 6200, and someone here suggested I set NoMovies =1, which got me going. I've just downloaded the new patch, partly in the vain hope it would let me see the movies - how wrong could I be? I'm now back to crashing on the startup screen! (I checked, and NoMovies = 1 is still there in the ini file).

I've seen in another thread that the option to suppress movies is now in a GUI configuration screen somewhere in the game, but -er - if I can't even get into the game...??

Anyone know a quick way of backing out the patch, or do I just have to install from scratch?

I can disable the starting movies in the ini file.. so perhaps do that so you can get to the option screen?

Sorry Gyathaar, to make it clear, that IS what I'm doing - when I first got the game and it was crashing on startup I added a line in CivilizationIV.ini which reads 'NoMovies = 1' and that solved the problem. Now I've downloaded the patch the game is crashing on startup again, even though the 'NoMovies = 1' line is still there.

Someone has suggested movies are now turned off through a configuration screen inside the game, but if that's true it's a big problem for me, because if I can't start the game I can't get to the configuration screen!

If you added the NoMovies line in yourself that seems to suggest there was some problem with your .ini file to start with. One fairly quick thing that might be worth trying would be to delete the NoMovies line you've added, in case the 1.61 patch fixed whatever the problem was, and the line you've added is interfering with something.

Failing that all I can suggest is to do a clean install, since I don't think there is any other way of rolling back to an earlier patch,

So there is! That gets me into the game. Now, the big test: with NoIntroMovies = 1 and NoMovies = 0 am I going to be able to see the movies at last...? I'll report back.

Guess what? No fix. Oh well, at least with NoMovies and NoIntroMovie set I can play the game again.

Have you tried the other movie options btw?
