Non-victory endgame - cant continue?

so, a bit confused. I was only a couple of turns off completing Contact Victory and a screen came up with an image of a destroyed city, talking about "how we thought we were invincible" and that "we were wrong". On top of that, it wouldnt let me continue playing and was forced back to the main menu.

Did one of the AI players achieve victory first? It didnt say that I had lost or won. And my little colony symbol (the one for slavic nation) was at the top of this little screen too. so yeh, can someone confirm if im right, or what the f*ck just happened.

What you saw is in fact the "You Lost" ending screen.
Someone achieved victory before you, probably through an affinity victory. Score has no relevance to that.

Next time you should pay more attention to the quest log on the victory progress side. Also there should have been a notice that notified you that the AI completed a planetary wonder.

And nope if you lose you get no "one... more... turn..." option.

ok, cool. I thought thats what it might have been but wasnt sure.

yeh it was pretty close. I was 80% on Contact and others were 75% on affinity victories. I reckon i missed it by about 2 turns lol. goddamn that sucks.

Ha! Exactly the same thing happened to me in my first game (finished it about an hour ago). I figured I had lost but have no idea who won or how. There were two other civs who were close to victory so it could have been either one of them....I was 3 turns away from a contact victory myself as well.

Glad I stopped in here for a look as now I know I'm not the only one!

same thing happened to me on my first game. Hopefully there's better notifications built into the first patch.
