Noob modding question: how do I change the dating system?

Hey guys,

I'm putting together a basic personal mod using BUG, NextWar etc just to learn how to mod properly - basically just a way of getting my feet wet in modding and some practice plus to have something fun to play a regular Civ game with a few tweaks and widgets added on.

What I want to do is very simple: I want to change the dating counting from "4000 BC to 2100 AD" to something else. How do I do that?

Sorry for the n00b question, but I am new to the modding biz as in making my own mods. Thanks for your help

Changing the text (B.C./A.D.) is probably not a problem, but changing where the 0 point is (or if there's one at all) would probably require dll modifications :/.

The starting year is controlled by one of the defines in GlobalDefines.xml. The turn increments are in Game Info/Civ4GameSpeedInfo.xml. The ending year is just what year would be at the end of the defined sequence.

Copied and pasted the relevant files into my mod folder, got the date set to the future and counting by years. Thanks guys for your help

You just needed a straight years count? That can be done by changing one of the defines (don't remember the name) from CALENDAR_DEFAULT to CALENDAR_YEARS.
