I thought I had to research "Sailing" to enable :traderoute: trade on rivers and coasts? But I had built my capitol one square away from a river - connected the capital to the river by road (one square). Then I settled a city at the coast where the river ended, and somehow I had that 2nd city connected to the tradenetwork without having the technology; "Sailing" nor a road between the 2 cities...

I see that I am not the only one having this "problem": http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=232936

Although I still think its a bug or bad documentation for how it should work...

I'm positive I had trade along rivers long before I discovered Sailing in Vanilla and Warlords Civ4. Sailing isn't my priority in all my games, that's how I know for sure.

Yes - but apparently they changed it so that in BtS you need Sailing if you want to trade along rivers that are not entirely within your borders. However the rules say "need sailing to trade along rivers" - so its one of those things were you shouldn't trust the manual too much ;)

Don't worry, ori covered it!

I just cannot contain myself: when is the next TC Joe and ori :P.

I think your question has been answered now, toft.

yes this only concerns the trade on river outside you cultural borders... so if it is inside you can use te river sometime before having sailing
