ok so i was playing yesterday, (i actually frequent this site more than i play) and these two questions came up.

1. does promoting a unit activate it? in otherwords, does it lose its fortification bonus?

2. do citizen worked mines have to be roaded in order to discover something?

1. does promoting a unit activate it? in otherwords, does it lose its fortification bonus?

2. do citizen worked mines have to be roaded in order to discover something?

no and no

1) yes of course you will be "unfortified", but if you fortify it back immediately you don't lose the fortification bonus.
For upgrading, it's different (there you lose the bonus).
2) things can appear in unroaded mines, but you won't have it connected to your trade network until you put aa road on it.
