Not trading with the worst enemy?

I'm playing a huge archepalgeo Warlord game. I just met Isabel. She said she'd never trade with me because I was her worst enemy. I just met her! I gave her the tech for trading maps and she became +5 relations with me. And she was still annoyed. Is this just a glitch, or is it a part of the normal game? If the second one, then they need to change it. It's really annoying. Now I have to find some way around her and I can't convert her to Judaism (she's no religion now. I really wanted to get some ally because the AI's have two large allainces that I'm scared of). Thanks in advance.

Yeah, but I have good relations with her. +5. The only reason she hates me is that I'm her "worst enemy". And I was from the very first time I met her. Seems screwed up how I am her worst enemy seemingly by random.

Shes a religion nut. As in she'll hate you, and probably attack you sooner or later, if you're a different religion.

Are you?

Worst enemy means the person you hat the most...as sspend said, if you are the only other civ ther you are their worst enemy (think of it as "you are the only person stopping me from winning this game")

No, she has no religion. Part of the reason I wanted to trade with her was so that I could convert her to Judaism.

That's probably it. She's on the far side of the planet and I'm between her and everyone else. Will it change when she meets somebody else or am I stuck with it?

You know what, I hate that whole "You traded with our worst enemy!" BS. I'd like to say to them "I'm a neutral power by choice. I trade with EVERYBODY who offers me a good price. I've been a good international citizen, I haven't started any wars, and I've used my considerable power and influence to ensure that this continent has had precisely two wars in five thousand years of history--none, if you and your neighbor hadn't been such idiots. I've done my best to ensure that neither my people nor yours never have to live in eternal fear of having their houses burned, their property stolen, and their wives and daughters raped, and that your economy could get to the point where you, as you now see, you totally overwhelm civilizations not on this continent. My trading with your 'enemies'--who are also your coreligionists, God doesn't like that--has no bearing on you national security. Deal with it." Or something to that effect, anyway.

Absolutely agree. Might be a bit big for the diplomacy screen though.
Perhaps 'BITE ME!', might be a better alternative?

"worst enemy" only means that you are the one with the lowest diplomatic rating.
Upon the silliness of giving someone a malus while being at +5 in diplomatics, I absolutely agree. But this is just a matter of the childish diplomatic system, although many people are impressed by the different green and red figures and therefore tend to think, it would mean anything.

LOL.

But in the view of some of the civs, if you're not emphatically for my position, than you are against it. Your "neutrality" is standing in my way, so I'll hate and try to destroy you. I've no interest in helping you get stronger, since I'll only have to destroy you and some point, anyway.

Deal with it.

This is not entirely accurate. It is actually possible to have a complete love-in where everyone has Pleased or better relations with everyone else, and everyone will trade with everyone else. You may not get Open Borders with everyone with just Pleased, but you won't get slammed much.

If you're at +5 (with no -#) and not able to trade at all, I'd say you hit a glitch. Isabella typically will open borders relatively easily.

Well, some leaders should be OK with that. But there are always the crazies who'll say "You're either with us or against us".

You can be neutral, but it wouldn't be realistic for that to mean everyone will like you.

Brennus traded with me even though I was his worst enemy and he refused to trade with me:lol:

Isabella tends to hate everyone.

THIS IS VERY TRUE AS EVERY GAME I START WITH HER SHE HATES ME BECAUSE I HAVE DIFFERENT RELIGION AND SHE ALWAYS SENDS SPIES TO CAUSE HAVAC. I USUALLY DECLARE WAR AND MAKE HER REGRET HER ACTIONS.

Amen, brother!
Unless you really bend your back to her demands, it is unlikely you'll ever please Izzie. Also, I find her military might... lacking. She's the first to go in virtually all my games.

But aside from that, diplomacy is still not nearly as straightforward or predictable as previous CIVs.
Eg: Player A says, "You're my worst enemy, and I refuse to trade with you!!"
Player B says, "You are my most favourite leader in the world!!"
Then Player B declares open season.

Pay close attention to the relations between other leaders!
