What does "Checkout from the repository to the folder you created" mean? What is the "directory in Windows Explorer?"

It's been a while since I read that thread, but here's what I do when I create a brand new svn (I just tested it and it started to download, so it should still work, plus I've done this with several different mods):

Create your svn folder (it can be anywhere except your BTS\mods folder).
Right click anywhere in this folder, and choose "SVN checkout".*
Make sure the repository URL is correct, and the name of the folder below that matches where you want to download to.
Click "OK".
When finished, export the files to your mods folder. In the future, choose "update" instead of "checkout".

*be sure Tortoise is installed first, or you won't get this option

Error: Can't create directory 'C:/Program Files/C2C SVN/.svn': Access is denied.

Then below that I see:

Completed.

What?

Do you have admin privileges on your computer? Try a folder other than "Program Files" as well. Some people like to use Desktop, and I prefer G:\temp\temp\temp.

Yes I do. I'll try the desktop.

EDIT: Seems to be working.

Wait, how long does this take?

Wait, how long does this take?

Depends on your connection speed, and if sourceforge is running smooth. It's about a 5GB download. Future updates will normally be a few seconds to a few minutes depending on what was changed from your last update.

So far 200 MBs done. How long do these things usually take?

How much space in total?

EDIT: OK, I see. Third of the way through.

Hey, wait a second! It stopped at 1,800 MB (about half of what it says in the thread) and I don't see any desktop icon. I may have messed up. :shifty:

No, that thread was made way back when, before VD was removed. It should be 1.8 GB or so, you didn't screw up.

So where do I find it? I put it in my desktop. (DH should really update the thread, btw)

if you lose connection during the download process for the SVN, take the following steps to pick up where you left off:
1)Cancel the download (it will never pick up again anyhow)
2)X out the download window.
at any time later you can:
3)Right Click on the repository file and select Tortoise SVN->Cleanup - that process shouldn't take long
4)Right Click on the repository file and select Update.

That'll get it back on track ;)

Oh, and it confused me at first too but it doesn't have to download but about 1/3rd of the data as it ends up being in the file (must have a compress, transfer, uncompress auto-feature)

It's done. I put it on the desktop. I don't see it, though.

Bump. Come on. Nobody has a clue?

Why are you looking for an Icon. You were supposed to use Checkout to place it in an Empty folder on your desktop as the checkouts destination. Did you do that?

If you did that when you open the folder there should be a .svn folder plus all the :normal" folders you find in the mod but with each regular mod folder having a Green round shield with a Check mark in it. It is these folders and files that you then copy and paste to either the empty Caveman2Cosmos folder in your c:..... BtS/Mods folder. Or to another new folder to be your working folder.

I don't know how it would work from the desktop, but I always use Windows Explorer and right-click-drag to my mods folder (actually another temp folder as I like to zip it first for archive purposes) and then choose "export all items here" in the following menu. You could choose "copy" but exporting does the same thing and only copies what is needed.

You can also simply right click and choose Tortoise>Export and a new window pops up asking where to export to, but I find dragging is faster.
