I was playing AoD and pillaged a tile with the explorer. This led me to notice something and explore a few files. This could be from the most recent patch, too, since I don't remember it earlier,

The explorer now has combat animations.

Pretty cool ones too! The explorer always looked like a cool swashbuckling dude, but lacked any combat animations to back it up. So all you modders out there, you can consider the explorer as a combative unit without feeling like you are comprosing things.

Noticed that too!
I am in the process of switching the explorer dude to Conquistador and the conquistador to caballero in my mod.

We're three caballeros, three gay caballeros. We're three birds of a feather!

Mind if I ask what a caballero actually is?

Cabal=cheval=horse (VERY loosely translated)
Ipso facto: horseman

But seriously, they were the knights of Spain. Nobles and powerful warlords.
You might also remember the myth of Don Quichote (Don Quixote).
He was a caballero... maybe wannabe is a better description.

If I recall correctly, there has always been the combat animations with the explorer.
Yep, there are attack files in the vanilla folder.
it just wasn't in the .ini?

but I didn't see the attack animation when I pillaged either, so your point's moot.

Hygro, I think that the change is that you now see the attack animation when pillaging, and that this is the change.
I believe that aaglo is correct that the gfx always existed.

Another point is that with one of the new tribes (I think is the Maya...) produces an explorer with atack/defence 1+1.

You're thinking of scouts - the Inca get the Chasquis scout, a 1-1-2 unit. The explorer is the one that comes later, and treats all terrain as roads. The Spanish have an explorer UU - the Conquistador - which is 3/2/2 and treats all terrain as roads, but costs as much as a knight. THE pillagers, though - an army of them can take out nine squares per turn.
