They came from the blackness...
300 Mayans will give their last dying breath to win at civ iii.
I've kept my military buildup in anticipation of cavalry and steam engine. Curiously enough, steam engine came first. Oh well. But what's this? No coal anywhere in my empire? This came as terrible news to myself. My 200+ workers began celebrating though, as they could slack off. Slackers. Where's my whip when I need it?
No other civ had a (spare) connected coal. The russians actually had a few resources but they didn't bother to hook up their jungles to their road network. What a primitive bunch, what is this, the middle ages? No! It's early industrial age ffs, we're civilized now.
Anyway, I had to load up my galleons and start an embarassing 9 turn journey to get the nice Mongols to kindly lend me their coal, and all of their cities. But then just as I reached the Mongols I got some terrible news... They've signed MMP with the Persians! !@$#@^#&! This meant I couldn't declare war on them for some 10 more turns, since I had a deal going with the Persians. I tried immediate steal to get the Persians to declare, failed, but they didn't declare war. Bah!
I had to come out with a plan fast. My knights were getting restless after 90 years at sea (How does that go, anyway? What, do they have children, and train them as knights while on board? Or do I have an army made of senior citizens?), and my workers were getting stupidly drunk by now from the celebrations. I realized I'd have no choice but to declare on the Russians and take some of their excess coal off their hands. Unfortunately, the force I brought with me was enough to handle the Mongols (who were barely out of the ancient ages), but not the Russians. I razed some of their cities and held on with everything I have on the coal city, to the great dismay of my workers.
My expedition force held on to the coal, while my main force has began the invasion on the Babylonians.
The babylonians were slightly backwards, so no riflemen. They also lacked saltpaper and iron, so only spearmen. They did have 2 horses though, but it was more of an annoyance than a real fight.
Next, is Russia. They have riflemen, but no horses so no cossacks.
Easy prey.
I have just discovered industrialization and my core is building factories, afterwhich I plan on triggering my golden age, and perhaps mobilize as well for some 20 turns of whoop ass.
What ever happened with my palace build, you may ask? Well, as it turned out, CAII says it's a bad idea to move my palace there for some reason. So I ended up manually building some 800+ shields in a half corrupted city. I've actually had to move the citizens to work the lake in order to prevent the build from running out. I'm guessing I'll use it on theory of evolution, which means I'll actually waste a good 350+ shields or so. I can't build hoover dam in a town that has a lake, but not river, right?
Let's just say that build ended up as a hilarious gag that overextended itself.
