NoTW XIX: The Song of the Nightingale - Game Thread

How dare you accuse my brother, you barbaric horse-loving hate monger!? First these troublemakers kill off half our crew, and then they try and turn as all against each other. I say that Renata is most likely to be one of the murderers here, and thus do I accuse him!

Truly, that is a brilliant course of action, Tyrs. Accuse someone you don't think is guilty. And these are the people we are supposed to trust to keep us from sailing straight for Hyborem?

I have no fear for myself or my family; Tali will surely save us. But the rest of you are doomed.

I strongly doubt that those most outspoken are the ones who have something to hide. thomas.berubeg and Renata may be angry, and cause strife, but I doubt they are behind this. And zxcvbnm, my son, I ask you to speak up and dispel these false accusations against you.

If we are to find the monsters behind this, we should look to those who stay in the shadows. One like Rheinmetall Ironfist...

I said I had my reservations, I agree with Niklas, however it was either make some action else nothing will be done. And is not the best disguise the one so obvious no one would guess it?

Do not attack my son! He is guilty of nothing but vehemence. Renata, you must learn to preserve your accusations until the best time...you would not have a horse gallop for the first ten minutes of a long run. Until such times as the blind realize one so pure and outspoken cannot be guilty of these crimes, I will protect my son from any who dare harm him.

{OOC: Sorry for my continued absence, I just havn't been able to sit down and read this yet, I'm not sure if I feel like playing another NoTW yet, sorry guys. I'll have my decision by tonight}.

{I assume that since you haven't stated anything either way, that you're dropping out. In that case I accuse you. Sorry, but if you're wanting to leave, might as well do it this way and keep actual players in the game.}

Edit: If he isn't dropping out, then I'll drop my accusation towards him.

The soup is starting to stir I see. Niklas, I have no intention to keep in the shadows, seek your targets elsewhere.

Fair enough, I will turn to your sister instead then. Tolis Ironfist, will you too speak plainly?

Niklas! You will not take my Maiden! So young even on human standards!!! You will appolize for accusing her!

(OCC: Been kinda busy with job hunting so havent had time to sit down and read this)

Strides up to Niklas and, after climbing up on a barrel, slaps him hard across his face

Ill speak when i deem it damned well to speak you dirty cur. You think you're all high and mighty eh? *spits* With your fancy boats and what not. I fear the poisoner less then i do intolerant bigots who cant stand the idea of peoples who are different then themselves. Had we any other choice we wouldnt be here, and now, just somehow, all the people (and i use the term people lightly in the case of Niklas) who want to alieniate each group by race and family seem to be throwing arround baseless accusations.

Its people like you who attack a Dwarf, not based off who he or she is, but just for their race or family, who lead to most of our conflict. If you think that us Dwarves are as wishy-washy as you seafarers, you will find that we are as hard as iron. I fear Niklas is just trying to stir discontent. Many have clamored for racial equality in the current situation, but someone seems to have a vendetta.

Keep your body fluids to yourself, "fair maiden"!

Since when did I attack someone based on their race? I even spoke in support of thomas.berubeg Hammerfist when some others would accuse him. I accused you only of being silent, or staying in the shadows. Since you have now spoken out, I would have retracted my accusation, except I don't like being spit at. So there.

Evening 1

The orange brilliance of dusk had begun to appear over the Nightingale even as heated accusations continued to get thrown about. Afternoon aboard the Nightingale had brought additional racially based flare ups, and the darkening skies had not yet cooled down flaming tempers on the deck.

Still, the day’s victim, thomas. berubeg Hammerfist had been selected, and the necessity of sleep forced the reluctant passengers to fulfill their terrible obligation. The proud Dwarf was frog marched onto the deck, with the screaming protests of his mother resonating behind him, where he was forced onto a newly constructed plank facing the open waters below. There the Captain Kol.7 pointed to the sharks waiting in the water, and asked if the unfortunate Dwarf had any last words.

Rather than speak, the Dwarf chose to sing, if that word can be used to describe his voice, which emitted a horrible screeching sound from his mouth that caused everyone in the vicinity to run away and cover their ears. The sound even managed to match the sad song of the Nightingale in intensity, which had not stopped after the morning’s events.

Thomas. berubeg’s ploy had succeeded, as nobody was brave enough to draw close enough to him to throw him over the side. Suddenly, the singing dwarf had a split second lapse, but it was enough. An unidentified sailor took the opening and punched the condemned Dwarf into the shark infested waters. The screeching that had resumed with his fall abruptly cut off, and only the sad song of the Nightingale continued in the air. Later analysis of the water would draw the following conclusion:

Spoiler :
The Apprentice was innocent.

The remaining survivors trooped off towards their beds, accompanied only by the sad ballad of the Nightingale. Somehow, a new piece of information had come into each of their minds simultaneously. The maps analyzed that morning gave them only 9 days left before reaching the land of the Infernals, a land in which they would surely die.

Morning 2

The trauma of the previous day behind them, the shipmates awoke to a brand new day with newfound hope. The Song of the Nightingale had ended their sleep were the dead captain could not, and the day seemed brighter somehow than the last. After all, they had survived the night, although one member short from last night’s execution. Perhaps the day would bring good news.

When the trapped passengers and crew went out on the deck however, pangs of fear began to strike at them all. The captain, Kol.7, was missing! There was a stampede of concerned men towards his cabin, with all frightened of what they would find there. Fortunately, to everybody’s surprise and relief, the cabin was empty, and there was no blood on the floor.

Still, all wondered where he could be, and their search led them to his mother, Backwards logic’s, room. The door was ajar, and the sound of weeping could be heard inside. One brave soul opened the door to discover the following:

Spoiler :
The Widow, Backwards Logic, was dead and an innocent.

Kol.7 was found weeping over his mother’s bloody corpse, with the tattered remains of her head in his hands. It appeared that Pinman’s wife had joined him in death just a day after his murder. Unlike Pinman however, her death was not gentle, and she appeared to have been ripped apart with little restraint. Lying next to the captain’s mother was the silver amulet she was awarded yesterday, with several new bloodstains on it. However, the greatest surprise was the discovery of a Knife in what appeared to have been Backward Logic’s former hand, with another engraving of Nightingale on it. Nobody knew where a kind woman like the captain’s wife could have acquired such a weapon, or the more frightening question of what she intended to use it for.

With these sobering thoughts in mind, the survivors drew the weeping captain away and began to prepare for the day’s round of voting, with the slow song of the Nightingale accompanying them.

The day will last for 48 hours, with the midday post coming in 24.
Accusations should be in Black.
Supports should be in Green.
Votes for the Bloody Amulet should be in Silver.
Votes for the Knife should be in Purple.

Ahh, dangit. Thomas was innocent.

Well, my friends, I was wrong. Now, let's just find ourselves another target, grieve Backwards Logic's loss, and then get on to killing wolves.

First of all, I say that Kol.7 should get the Bloody Amulet and the Knife as well. He's the captain and these are the two things his parents want most.

Damn it.

I have failed again. I cannot fail Kol.7 now. Give me the knife, I will use it to end this madness. I will confess this. I am supposed to be a bodyguard, but a weapon I do not have. Before the madness, there was no need for one. But now I see I am caught off guard. Please, the knife to me.

As for the amulet, Kol.7, your father would want you to have it in his stead. Take it. It's the least that I could do.
