NOTW XXI: A Return to Foxford

Ah, t'was a fun game after all (well...).
Nice job Methos, I never really seriously suspected you. Well, a little, but no more that I suspect all the other players.

Somehow I thought that Niklas was up to something... But seeing his old character from NotW (13 ? 15 ?) was great. Nice touch Thomas.

You wolves must have been glad to have me do your dirty job, and get this : without being asked to ! Again, I suspect you had a fun game Methos.

Note to myself for the next game : playing randomly does NOT work ;)

Thanks again Thomas for hosting.

I had fun following along with this one, even though I couldn't play. Congrats to the wolves!

Me, too! At least there's always a next one.

Psst, LightFang, that's your cue. :p Or anyone else on the list.

Fitting that the wolves should win in Foxford again. Well done wolfies!

For the benefit of we turkey lurkeys, was there a lot of PMing going on behind the scenes? It doesn't seem likely that you'd let something like "Izipo for no reason at all" go unchallenged if there wasn't... :mischief:

i know Methos was PMing and IMing constantly behind the scenes..
catharsis, are you planing on getting involved with NTOW again?

I wondered if this was due to the fact that I killed Tasselhoff the night after he approached Izipo about him being the thief. I was curious if Tasselhoff had told anyone about his plan on contacting Izipo.

Edit: I had planned on killing Tasselhoff that night anyway, before I knew he contacted Izipo, so the Izipo looking suspicious thing was just a bonus.

I'm not named after Hasselhoff :p

Typical, the first person I contact turns out to be a wolf >.<, and the second one I contact defects to wolfiness.

My apologies.

You didn't contact/scan anyone else? We let you live for a couple days before killing you.

Damn. I had Methos and Niklas as a pair, but with Niklas starting the Sirtommygun bandwagon I thought they were both innocent:mad:. Ah well, well played!

My apologies.

Actually, I had two nights. First night was Kol, second was Izipo.

Ah, yes, that went extremely well for the wolves. Seeing the rundown of abilities, I'm surprised we made it, especially after that first bandwagon killed sirtommygunn. I guess the conversion mechanic ended up making it so that no conclusions could be drawn from that vote, and the prophets were also luckily neutralized. Interesting game, and it goes further to prove that inactivity just helps the wolves. I wasn't inclined to complain after I was converted, and I was even offline due to real life circumstances during much of the first half, but really, it's in the players' best interest to cast lots of votes around and execute non-participants.

The next NotW will be my first time ever GMing one.

It's going to be really simple.

And it will be up in like a week. Enough time to rest and recuperate.

Also because this week is hell for me.

Yay! (Not the hell part, the rest. :D )

This was my first time playing as a wolf and I was at a loss on how to play. Up until the first day, I still hadn’t come up with a plan. That is until Sirtommygunn became a target. I believe we could have saved him, but I feared by doing so we would implicate ourselves if stg ended up getting lynched later on in the game. So rather than endanger the wolves, I let stg die. It was at this point that I decided upon my strategy. I believed letting stg die was a rather stupid move for the wolves, so I figured I might as well run with that. In other words, I would play the wolves as inexperienced and/or new to the game. I had some interesting discussions with other players after stg was lynched, as everyone seemed to agree that the wolves had screwed themselves by not saving stg. Hehe, I was doing a great job of making myself look stupid!

I wanted an early conversion for three reasons; first, was we were down stg and merciary wasn’t able to be very active. Second, while talking with Chand he brought up how obvious certain players were as innocents due to voting for stg and that wasn’t good for the wolves. Third, an early conversion wasn’t the smartest thing in my opinion. Converting someone later in the game seems the smartest tactic, so I was hoping an extremely early conversion would again show a lack of experience. One problem was that Chand also was busy with RL, so my first objective for converting him wasn’t met at first. Sorry Chand, but your discussion with me regarding the wolves led me to believe you’d make a great addition to us.

Targets were often chosen with very little reasoning, at least some of them. Sometimes people were picked for odd things they said in the thread, or the fact it could be a frame. It didn’t always work, but I wanted to keep up the appearance of inexperience.

Not all targets were random; some were very deliberate with a bit of a delay. J-man made the mistake of saying he was a prophet in this thread, therefore I saw no reason not to kill him immediately. Others were a different story. I didn’t want to be obvious in my kills, so when someone popped up with an ability that was dangerous to the wolves, I waited several days before killing them. Yes this was very dangerous, but it accomplished several things; it kept me from looking suspicious since the player didn’t die the night he told me (or the next night for that matter) and it appeared like there wasn’t much of a reason behind it (the appearance of inexperience). Vehem was one target that I chose because he seemed innocent. What I mean is if I were an innocent, then all evidence pointed towards him being innocent too. I couldn’t have that, as I didn’t want a strong block of innocents to join together, so his death was to keep the innocents unsure of each other.

The Tass/Izipo thing was pure luck. Tass approached me regarding his ability and Izipo just seemed to fall into place with me having to do anything. Item votes fell just perfectly so that I could vote one item to Izipo knowing he’d steal the other one. Tass, who’s ability worried me a lot, just happen to approach Izipo the very day I had considered killing Tass, which both threw suspicion on Izipo and informed me that it was Tass with the ability and not some friend like he claimed to have it.

The double lynching was an accident and a nice one at that. I set the tie up so that we the wolves could decide on which one to have lynched. Remember, Merciary was the mayor at this time, so I expected him to decide. It was a pleasant shock when they were both lynched. I believe this was also the night that Kol joined the wolves. After the double lynching, I considered pulling the same thing the next day, but the other wolves warned me off it would be too obvious. The last day was interesting, as it was close between Love and Izipo. It was rather obvious this would be the last night and I didn’t want to accidently kill the wrong person. Since I knew what Izipo’s ability was, I chose to save Izipo from the lynch so that I could kill him later.

I’m not sure if my “strategy” would work this well if the innocents had been more active, but for this game it appeared to have worked wonderfully. I was never brought up in the vote and even those I worked with appeared to not suspect me.

I hate to admit it, but I do a great job of playing stupid! :smug:

Edit: Feel free to ask questions regarding something, as when I wrote this I wasn't able to remember everything about the game. Ask away.

I left something hilarious out, so let me add to the above regarding the whole D’art false prophet affair. D’art and his cats just screamed prophet to me, so I approached him regarding it and he admitted to being a prophet. The thing that got me was when he informed me that he had scanned Adrogans and that he was a wolf. I was fairly certain he was a false prophet at this point, but I needed to make sure. After all, he could be a good wolf so I decided to throw in with D’art and get Adrogans lynched. Apparently I wasn’t the only one D’art had told as I was contacted by Vehem with Kol cc’ed. This turned out in my favor, so while I was working with D’art, I also worked with Vehem and Kol in the plot against D’art. Simply put, ‘we’ didn’t believe Adrogans was a wolf, but in order to test it, we followed along with D’art and lynched Adrogans. This did several things for me, found out D’art was a false prophet, turned the innocents against D’art, gained me some innocent contacts, and kept me off the lynch list.

Ah, D'Art and his cats...
A sad moment for me. I had high hopes for Adrogans and I really tried to save him, to no avail. I'd really like to hear what he has to say on the matter. Dying so soon must have been sucky.
