and first of all ı have to repaint a resource.pcx . Have found them and ı see there is also a file for the shadows of the resources . If ı was to paint -say- tropical fruits into a single colour that covers the entire tile , would ı need to do anything about the shadow pcx ?

Most people just don't use the shadow pcx. So you can just have a blank shadow.pcx file (many mods use it, or someone can send you one).

What would your mod be about?

am thinking about a space scenario and need the resource to cover coasts that are not lakes and stuff . Thanks for the answer .

edit : ı have seen that it seems possible to use modern era city graphics for different civs , leading to 10 or so widely different looks for settlements ; the map will have some planetary terrain . Am merely supposed to write up the unit upgrade path and draw a map that suits the purposes but then a space-station city set would just be awesome .

Many creators just ignore the shadow pcx - leave the square matching your new resource blank. May not look as pretty in-game - if it's even noticed - but it works.

thanks , will try doing so . Something about the units . ı think ı can take any unit from the downloads section and use with proper credits . If ı find the unit in a mod or scenario though , and in case it's not in the downloads do ı ask the unit maker for permission ?

When I was a moderator there was extensive discussion of formalizing guidelines for credit. For various reasons there is no formal policy - it's an "act in good faith" situation. The presumption is that anything available at this site is available for use in whole or part by any member of the community. Some people uploaded work to other sites, some things got lost when the db was hacked a few years ago, some were made as part of a scenario and not uploaded separately, and so on. If not sure who to credit post an image here & someone will probably recognize it. Don't need to ask permission. Just give credit. There are rare exceptions, notably Ares request to ask permission before modifying the terrain graphics he has uploaded. Nothing against using them, just changing them without prior permission.

People tend to upload stuff so it will be used in mods. In fact, as a creator, it's a sign of appreciation for the leaderhead/unit/building or whatever to be used (so long as the source is mentioned when the mod containing it is published).

thanks . Or maybe ı should have edited my previous post only to keep the post count down . Have been only playing the game , seeing the minutea of writing the BIQ can be real work only when ı try to do it myself . By the way would it be allright if ı post an half ready BIQ within a month maybe and invite anyone to oversee it ? Game balance is such an alien concept to me .

This is what is called a wip (or WIP): "Work in progress". Also sometimes a beta version. The mod / scenario subforums are meant for finished work. WIPs are very welcome in the main C&Cforum - same forum as this thread. Just start a new thread for your mod. You'll get comments & suggestions. Maybe not right away because most of us have busy lives and like to play before we comment. But you'll definitely get responses about your creation.

Sometimes when people see a wip they offer help, or at least pointers toward things that can be adapted.

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time, just like everything else. Some of us have been working on our personal pet projects for multiple years. So don't be daunted - just do what you can and add to it over time.
