NOW what do I do?

I picked standard size and noble, 'cause I'm a standard noble kinda guy, then random everything else. I'm Japan in a temperate archipeligo.

I got off to a good start: had stone, so I got the pyramids and the great wall. I know the great wall on an island is not really useful, but I like engineer GPPs. I missed the oracle by a couple of moves but I got the Collusus (sp?) so I'm making money in spite of having cities spread out so far.

I founded Judism and Confucianism, adopted Judism. The other religions are spread out amoung the civs, and they're all mad at me for falling under the sway etc etc.

I have 9 cities on 4 islands. It's around 1100 AD, I'm winning by points, and the only civ that causes me concern is Hannibal who, according to the graphs, has a huge army, and is almost matching to me in techs. The Ottomans and the Aztecs are getting a little snarly, and I don't have the army built to invade, but I feel confident I can repel them if they invade.

There's a few empty islands I could colonize, but they're getting pretty far away and don't have any resources that I really need.

Three more things - I'm much stupider than I look, my F key is sticking, and I'm still pretty ignorant of all the tricks and slings and all that.

So what do I do? I have military traits but developed economically due to the environment. I circumnavigated first, so my navy will be fast. But do I spend a couple of centuries building samuri and catapults (that's the stage I'm at) until I get astronomy, then build galleons? That sound boring. I'm not convinced I could win diplomatically, and I sure dont want to wait 1000 years and see what my points are.

Any suggestions? Remeber that you're talking to a beginner. Thanks.

Well, first tell us what civ u r. then post a screenie of the world. then tell us how you want to win.

And if the Spirit moves you, upload your most recent save so we can get a good look around it.

>tell us what civ you are.

I'm Japan, I mentioned that at the beginning.

>post a screenie

Don't know how to capture a screen save. Playing on a Mac.

> And tell us how you want to win

That's what I'm asking, advice on what path to take. I WANT to win in a total of 6 moves or less, in a manner that attracts women, but I dunno how.

Any advice, even the most general, would be appreciated.

Ok, if you can run research at 80% feel free to go crazy with your military, samurai, trebs, and galleys can invade islands that are connected by coast. DoW on them once most of your samurai are as close as possible to the island from your nearest island, and send in 4-8 to take out a weak city and keep it, so you can quickly unload your samurai and trebs for the invasion, repeat this cycle but upgrade units, it's the best way to mount naval invasions from my experience.

You can take a screenshot on a Mac by doing the following: play the game in window-mode (not fullscreen!) and then press Shift-Command-4 simultaneously. Your cursor should turn into 'an aim' at this point. Roll over your CIV window and then drag your cursor over it and release. A screenie should appear on your Desktop now. This is how I do it on my Mac.

Edit. My advice is to build a lot of samurais and trebuchets and ships and invade the nearest civs.

I'm not 100% sure what game speed we are talking about. If it is quick you might just skip over any advice I offer because I am not particularly confident about staging a successful war of conquest on quick.

Not warring with Toku and the circumnavigation bonus seems like a waste. I have a very general idea of where you are on part of the tech tree but one key question at least to me is where do you stand in the liberalism race? Liberalism to take nationalism would unlock nationhood which will be very powerful with gunpowder units and Toku's traits. I wouldn't kick free speech and free religion out of bed either. After a war of conquest, those two make the assimilation of usually highly cultured captured cities much more painless. If you think you can pull that race out you could focus your production efforts on catapults and when available, trebuchets, knowing that you will be able to draft a decent amount of your invading army.

Thanks for the responses, particularly Vale, that's the kind of thing I was looking for.

Game speed, yes, the one thing I negleted to tell you - normal speed.

The concensus seems to build up the military and kill folks, try to grab a few certain techs. I get the idea. Thanks again.

Switch religions to someone who is friendly with you (and hates Hanna)already and try to bribe them to declare war on Hanna.

2 drawbacks

- you might have to give up some techs...
- you might lose some religion bonuses...

but it should shut Hanna up for a little bit.

sorry, I didn't read carefully

compliment them on their shoes and appear to be listening to what they're saying...

build samurai and go forth and kill, then get nationalism and go forth and kill. the ye olde brute force method ;) i.e. what vale said

Hmm, change religions and suck up to somebody, ask them to attack Carthage. Interesting idea. That's more of the kind of thing I was looking for.

Thanks to everybody that responded. It occurred to me that I was out of ideas on this one because this rarely happens. Usually, by this point in the game, I'm so close to winning that I get bored and stop. Build, move, board, build, move, board, build, move, board...

I was also interested if anybody had some other strategy, like "the way you become the most popular civ in history is..." but no.

Compliment their shoes, good advice.
