In this thread I want to provide a forum for those that have lost a relative to have them remembered.

I think it is appropriate in civfanatics because we do have a general sense of community and this is the "home" for many of us on the internet...I for one spend more time here than anywhere else on the net.

As a few of you will remember I lost my grandfather some months back...what I post today is the leaflet which my Uncle Charles (ex-Royal Navy) produced as a short summary of his life to give to people present at the funeral mass.

Having read his war record it sums up him as a person: in essence his war record statement was...
"A quiet man, well respected by the soldiers and conducts himself well"...he didn't expect alot out of life, but brought out of the worst area of Glasgow 4 girls and a son that have become very successful and affluent and from which a large and prosperous family have grown.

I hope people respect this thread and do not spam etc...

He didn't like people who didn't work, who wanted money, who stole or were politicans...and he told me that there is no glory in war and he should know having fought for 6 years in WW2 in the Infantry.

If anyone can think of a more appropriate title for this thread it would be appreciated...and I'll try and get a mod to change it to that title.

I would be very happy to see this thread remember soley people related to civfanatics who fought in the war...they deserve our gratitude and respect.

A few tidbits about my clan!

My Gran's brother was one of the first allied soldiers to be killed by the wehrmacht in WW2, He is buried in a little war cemetary in Belgium.

My other great uncle won a valour medal on D-Day,
for saving an American Officer.

And my Grandad fought the SS in North Africa!

I Salute your relative's memory...
