It says that Scientific Method Obsoletes Monasteries. Is this when ANYONE in the world gets Scientific Method or just you? Do they quit making culture?
Yep. The same is for all obsolete thingies. Once they are obsolete, you can no longer build them, but those that have been built still make the culture that they did, but have no more special effects - except the monestary, which keeps making missionaries.
Eh... And it would be quite absurd if scholars in your monasteries stopped practising science when somebody else learns the modern method of scientific research
Well, it's not like there isn't _any_ weird things in this game according to what I've read on this forum, I'll give you that.
The science boost (which can be significant if you have a lot of religions) and capability to build them are removed, everything else remains (culture, missionaries).
So it's always a good idea to build at least one or two monestaries for each religion in your empire before researching SciMethod, allowing you to mass-spread religion later in the game for the happiness boost from Free Religion
Another option to build missionaries is temporarily switching to Organized Religion, although its high upkeep is very expensive in late game.
