Hello everyone!

After the Deity+5 victory I decided to try One City Challenge (OCC) games. I started at King level and victory was achieved easily. After winning Emperor and Deity I decided to give a try at Deity+ levels.

Today I finished my Deity+1 game. Victory was achieved at 1941. The start of the game was more challenging as Colossus is a must-have Wonder so I had to take several restarts because I missed it.

My city site had 6 river squares, Silk, Buffalo, Fish and several Grassland and Plains squares. The city was not a coastal city so I did not have the possibility of building ships. I transformed the Buffalo to Coal as soon as I got Engineers.

Wonders I built were Colossus, Copernicus Observatory, Shakespeare's Theatre, Isaac Newton's College and Darwin's Voyage. I think that United Nations is also a very useful Wonder to maintain peaceful relations, but this game I did not build it as I chose to build lots of Food Freight instead.

Early game I traded techs with other nations enthusiastically but after the discovery of Automobile I decided that the technological advantage needed for late game had to begin. When I launched my spaceship the other nations had not begun building theirs yet. I blocked all my city squares with Freight units so that nobody could steal my technologies. Neigboring Persians declared war and destroyed a couple of Freight before a peace agreement was reached. As I did not have UN it cost me 3500 gold. At first it seemed that the Russians could build and send a faster ship in time but they did not discover Superconductor in time, I think.

It may be that it is impossible to win the highest D+ levels, but we'll see when the limit is reached as I try to climb up the ladder :)

Hello again!

It seems that D+2 OCC is extremely difficult to win, but I won't say impossible. I have tried several times and the closest I got was a one turn loss in the space race.

It seems that the world parameters play a huge role in this kind of challenge. Maybe arid world with lots of ocean is the easiest to win if a suitable starting position is found. In my latest game the world was full of grassland and even though everything looked fine near the end, it ended in miserable failure because the French discovered one advance per turn in the end because they had several huge cities.

I'll let time pass now before playing any more of Civ2 as these challenges have really drained my energy. Maybe in ten years I'll give it another try :)

If anyone manages to beat D+2 OCC then please report it here.
