Odd: BTS will only run via autoplay

Hi there, I've been searching around the forums for a while now and haven't found any mention of this, so my apologies up front if it's posted somewhere else.

I recently purchased a new laptop and since installing BTS, I have had all sorts of fun trying to get it to launch consistently. Sometimes it works fine, other times it just sits at the "loading" window (the one with the 6 languages) then I get an error from Vista saying that BTS is no longer responding.

However, I've found what appears at this point to be a consistent workaround: if I eject & re-insert the disc into my CD drive, then run off of the Autoplay popup, everything works just fine.

Anyone ever seen this before?

My specs are:

Civ 4 BTS, 3.13 Patch + Buhrick's patch
Vista Home Premium
HP Pavilion dv9744CA
GeForce 8600M GS 512MB
Toshiba DVDW/HD SD-L802B ATA
Realtek High Def Audio

Not sure if I'm going to stick with Vista, but I'm on the fence right now. This is leaning me towards downgrading, since I never had this sort of problem with XP, but it's definitely bizarre.

Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

vista seems to screw with the safedisc protection that Civ uses. There have been reports around here that some of this might be remedied by not running it as administrator and not running it in XP compatibility mode - if you do that.
The only real solution would be for either MacroVision or Microsoft to release safedisc drivers that are compatible with both XP and Vista :gripe:
